Your first tenancy payment includes your rent and your deposit

Written by Iga Maciejewska

If your first payment included both your rent and a tenancy deposit, don't worry, we can now report the rent payment regardless.

When we receive evidence from you that your first payment included a deposit, we'll separate the rent amount from the deposit before reporting the rent payment only to the credit reference agencies (CRAs). This ensures that only your rent payment is reported. We can only do this whilst the month is open for reporting. If the month is closed we’ll start reporting from the following month.

What you need to do

If your first payment included a deposit:

  1. Contact our support team at help@creditladder.co.uk.

  2. Provide evidence showing how much of the payment was rent and how much was the deposit (for example, your tenancy agreement or landlord confirmation).

  3. We'll review the information and update the reporting where appropriate.

Why this matters

Deposits are not rent payments and aren't eligible to be reported as rent. Separating the two helps ensure your rent reporting accurately reflects your tenancy payment history.

If you've already contacted us, please allow our team 2 working days to review your documents before the updated information appears in your account.
