How to use relative and absolute dates to create a useful filter

Updated over 3 years ago

Date filters

A filter can be created using Relative or Absolute dates.

  • Absolute dates are singular fixed dates.

For example you may want to know all the accounts who have expected payment dates during October, so you would use the filters after 31/09/2021 and before 01/11/2021.

  • Relative dates are flexible and move through time with you.

For example the coming week will always be from "today" and "7 days in the future".

Using Relative dates to create filters

Future dates

If you want to create filters for dates in the future, you need to use negative numbers. For example, accounts who have an expected payment date in the next week, need to use the filter expected payment date more than -7 days ago.

Then, to ensure the filter excludes any expected payment dates from the past.
Add another field to the filter using the term less than 0 days ago.

Past Dates

Filters for “less than X days ago” will also apply to dates in the future. If you’re filtering on an attribute that can be a past or future date, add a filter for “More than 0 days ago” to only target those in the past.
