External Exam Fees

How much do A Level and IGCSE exams cost at CGA?

Updated over a week ago

Due to the costs associated with running exams in various locations around the world, an exam fee applies to students sitting their exams at CGA Examination centres.

If a student is in a location with a third-party centre (i.e., not a CGA centre), the costs will be determined by the centre of interest and payment will be directly issued to the centre. Although the fees differ from centre to centre, they will be broadly comparable to the CGA centre fees (detailed below).

EXAM FEE OVERVIEW
There are two types of examination fees, the Administration fee and the Unit Entry fee.

#1: Administration fee
In each examination session, students will be charged a $300 NZD administration fee on top of the unit entry fees. This fee is only charged once per exam series.

The administration fee covers the cost to hire the examination centre, the cost of invigilators and the costs to post the examination scripts back to the UK.

#2: Unit entry fee
The unit entry fee is the cost for each subject/unit.

  • The unit entry fees relate to the cost CGA incurs from Pearson to register the students for each examination.

  • International GCSE unit fees are per subject. There are typically two examinations per IGCSE subject. The unit fee covers both examinations.

  • International A-levels unit fees are per unit. There are likely to be multiple units and therefore multiple unit fees.

  • Unit fees differ from centre to centre; this is due to the differences in student volumes from one centre to the next (centres in cities with fewer CGA students are more costly to run)

  • If entering for the exams during the 'late fee' period (approximately one month before the beginning of an exam session), the Pearson registration costs increase and the unit fees change accordingly.

  • There is also a 'high late fee' period (approximately two weeks before the session), during which the registration costs increase again and the fees increase further. These deadlines will be communicated well in advance.

EXAMPLES

Student #1:
Takes IGCSE Economics exams (4EC1). The unit fee for IGCSE is $300 per subject.
Total fee = unit fee ($300) + the administration fee ($300) = $600

Student #2:
Takes fees for IAS Mathematics, IAS English Literature, IAS Psychology and IAS Physics exams. The unit fees at the lower end are $135 per unit for maths/science subjects and $160 per unit for other subjects.
There are three units in IAS Mathematics and IAS Physics (WMA11, WMA12, WST01 and WPH11, WPH12, WPH13) and two units in IAS English Literature and IAS Psychology (WET11, WET12 and WPS01, WPS02).

Total fee = unit fees ($1450 = $135 x 6 + $160 x 4) + the administration fee ($300) = $1750
