What is a 'Justified' absence?
What is a 'Justified' absence?
Updated over a week ago

When the reason is within the school policy, we justify students' absences.

The following is the examples of justified absences:

  • Medical Appointment (doctor or dentist)

  • Student absent due to short-term illness/medical reasons. A student is at home, or in hospital, because of illness or other medical reasons.

Note: By following New Zealand Ministry of Education guidelines, a medical absence of more than 3 days will require a doctor's note/certificate.

This may be retrospective if the student has already returned to school, or if the student's medical absence is ongoing, the medical note can specify the expected date of return.

  • Unplanned absences such as unexpected travel delays, extreme weather conditions or unplanned technical issues

  • Planned non-attendance such as national/local representation in a sporting or cultural event locally or overseas.

  • Approved absence (also overseas) including bereavement, visiting an ill relative, exceptional family circumstances

  • For Part-time students, this also covers clashes with activities related to their full-time schools, such as camp or other extracurricular activities.

  • A student accompanying, or visiting a family member who is on an overseas posting. (Up to 15 weeks) E.g. military or diplomatic.

The attendance report needs to be made prior to the classes where it's possible.
