Overview
When you create a new wallet in Crucible, you are setting up a "self-custody" account. This means you have total control over your TAO, but it also means you are responsible for keeping your recovery information safe.
Step 1: Generate Your Seed Phrase
When you open the Crucible extension and select "Create Wallet," the app will generate a 12-word Seed Phrase (sometimes called a Recovery Phrase).
What is it? This phrase is the "Master Key" to your TAO. Even if your computer breaks or you forget your password, these 12 words can restore your wallet on any device.
The Golden Rule: Crucible Labs does not store this phrase. If you lose it, your TAO is gone forever.
Step 2: Secure Your Phrase (Retail Best Practices)
Because Bittensor is decentralized, there is no "Forgot Password" button for your seed phrase.
Write it down physically: Use pen and paper. Avoid taking a screenshot or saving it in a Notes app, as these can be hacked.
Double-Check: The extension will ask you to verify the words to ensure you’ve written them correctly.
Hide it: Store your paper backup in a safe, fireproof, or private location.
Step 3: Set Your Crucible Password
Once your seed phrase is secure, you will be asked to create a password for the extension.
What it does: This password unlocks the Crucible app on your current browser so you don't have to type your 12 words every time you want to send TAO.
Password vs. Seed Phrase: If you forget this password, you can simply delete the extension and "Import" your wallet again using your 12-word seed phrase to set a new one.
Step 4: Your Wallet Address
Once setup is complete, you will see your Wallet Address (usually starting with the number "5").
This is like your "IBAN" or "Account Number."
You can share this address freely with others so they can send you TAO.
