Overview
If you already have a Bittensor wallet, you don't need to create a new one to use Crucible. You can simply "Import" your account using your recovery phrase.
Important: Importing your wallet does not "move" your TAO or create a transaction on the blockchain. You are simply giving the Crucible extension permission to view and manage your existing funds. You can continue to use your original wallet app at the same time if you wish.
What You Will Need
Your 12-word Recovery Phrase.
Note: Currently, Crucible only supports 12-word phrases. If your existing wallet uses a different length (such as 24 words), you will not be able to import it at this time.
A few minutes to set up a local password and a nickname for your wallet.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open the Crucible Extension
Launch the extension in your browser. On the welcome screen, select "Import Wallet".
2. Enter Your Recovery Phrase
Carefully type your 12 words in the correct order.
Order Matters: The order of the words must be exactly as they were given to you when you first created the wallet.
Lowercase Only: Ensure there are no capital letters and only one space between each word.
3. Name Your Wallet
You will be asked to provide a name for your wallet (e.g., "My Savings" or "Main TAO").
Self-Identification: This name is only used to help you identify the wallet within the Crucible app.
No Impact on Funds: This name is local to your computer. It is not stored on the blockchain and does not affect your wallet address or your TAO in any way.
4. Set a New Extension Password
Create a password for the Crucible extension.
This password is local to this browser and is used to unlock the app day-to-day.
If you forget this password, you can always re-import your wallet using your 12-word phrase to set a new one.
5. Verify Your Balance
Once the import is complete, your wallet address and TAO balance should appear automatically.
Common Questions
Does this change my wallet address? No. Your address (the long string starting with "5...") will remain exactly the same.
Can I still use my old wallet? Yes. Since your TAO lives on the blockchain, you can access it through multiple wallet apps at once using your recovery phrase.
Is it safe to type my phrase into Crucible? Crucible is a non-custodial wallet. Your phrase is encrypted and stored only on your device; it is never sent to our servers. Always ensure you are using the official Crucible extension from the Chrome Web Store.
