A £1,500 loss on a single event reaches the £200 event cap: only £1,000 of that loss enters the calculation. Splitting that event across several markets does not create separate event allowances. Winning results can offset losses, so the total of losing stakes alone is insufficient to calculate a rebate.

How the 20% Matchbook rebate is calculated

The amounts below assume qualifying losses with no offsetting wins elsewhere in the calculation.

If two markets on the same event produce a £100 loss and a £100 win before commission, their combined result is £0. The losing bet alone therefore supplies no rebate in that scenario. A commission charge on the winning market does not turn those equal gross results into a qualifying £100 loss.

How to claim the Matchbook welcome offer

  1. Register through the 20% rebate offer and confirm that it is attached to the new account.

  2. Fund the account with an eligible card deposit.

  3. Use Matchbook's exchange website or app during the first 30 days. The registration date starts the clock.

  4. Check the credited tokens after the qualifying period, then use each token before its seven-day expiry.

Only one welcome offer is allowed per account. Linked or duplicate registrations can be excluded.

Using a Matchbook free bet

Each token must be staked in full. Its stake is excluded from the return on a winning bet, and the token itself cannot be withdrawn.

A £20 free bet at decimal odds of 3.00 produces £40 in profit before applicable commission when it wins: £20 × (3.00 − 1). A £20 cash bet at the same odds returns £60 including the cash stake. This difference matters when reading the bet slip and calculating the value of a reward.

Back and lay: the two sides of a Matchbook market

A back bet supports a selection. With a £20 stake at decimal odds of 3.00, the gross return is £60 if the selection wins, including the £20 cash stake; the pre-commission profit is £40. At the standard 2% rate, an otherwise isolated £40 net market win leaves £39.20 after commission.

A lay bet takes the opposite side. Laying a selection at 4.00 for another bettor's £10 back stake creates £30 liability: £10 × (4.00 − 1). If the selection wins, the layer loses that £30. If it loses, the layer wins £10 before any applicable commission. The displayed lay stake and the amount at risk are therefore different numbers.

Exchange term

Practical meaning

Matched amount

The portion accepted by another participant; an unmatched remainder is not the same as an active matched bet

Liquidity

Money available at displayed prices; it determines how much can be matched at those odds

Liability

The amount a layer can lose, calculated from the lay price and backer's stake

Cash Out

An offsetting exchange position that depends on prices and enough liquidity being available

Premier League football and UK and Irish horse racing are prominent exchange categories. Pre-match and in-play prices can differ because an event has changed or because the available opposing money has changed. A visible price does not guarantee that an entire intended stake will be matched there.

Matchbook bonus FAQ

What is the maximum Matchbook welcome bonus?

The overall cap is £1,000 in free bets, with a separate £200 cap for any single event.

When are the free bets credited?

Crediting is due the day after the first 30 calendar days from registration. Each token then lasts seven days.

Does a £50 deposit earn a £50 bonus?

The calculation uses qualifying net exchange losses. For a £50 qualifying net loss, 20% is £10.

Can I withdraw the free-bet stake?

The token is usable for betting only. A successful bet returns the profit with applicable commission deducted; the free-bet stake is excluded.

Do casino losses count toward the rebate?

Casino, multiples and Bet Builder losses are excluded from the qualifying loss calculation.
