Troubleshooting network issues

A basic guide on how to approach different network issues in Hunt: Showdown 1896

Updated over a month ago

Quick Network Diagnostic Checklist

Try these quick tests first:

  • Check your connection type: Wi-Fi vs. wired

  • Test mobile hotspot to see if main network is the issue

  • Run VPN test (diagnostic only)

  • Verify firewall or antivirus is not blocking Hunt

These steps often reveal the source before deeper troubleshooting.

Types of Network Issues

1. Rubberbanding / Packet Loss

How it presents:

  • Player movement appears jerky or delayed

  • Shots or actions may register inconsistently

Possible causes:

  • Unstable Wi-Fi or internet connection

  • Packet loss from ISP or routing

  • Background apps consuming bandwidth

Diagnostic steps:

  • Run MTR to the nearest server (see table below)

  • Test via mobile hotspot

  • VPN test for routing issues

2. High but Stable Ping

How it presents:

  • Consistently high latency (e.g., 150+ ms)

  • Gameplay feels laggy but not jumpy

Possible causes:

  • Geographical distance to the game server

  • ISP routing issues

  • VPN or proxy affecting latency

Diagnostic steps:

  • Run MTR to server (see table below)

  • Test via mobile hotspot

  • VPN test for routing issues

3. No servers available in region list, 0 ping shown (UDP-Based)

How it presents:

  • Game cannot retrieve ping to server

Possible causes:

  • UDP traffic blocked by firewall/router

  • Antivirus blocking Hunt

  • ISP restrictions

Diagnostic steps:

  • Add hunt.exe and HuntGame.exe to antivirus exceptions

  • Ensure router allows UDP traffic

  • Mobile hotspot test

4. 0x30001 – Generic Connection Error (TCP-Based)

How it presents:

  • Game shows 0x30001 when connecting

  • Login fails at game launch

Possible causes:

  • TCP traffic blocked by firewall/router

  • Antivirus blocking Hunt

  • ISP restrictions

Diagnostic steps:

  • Check firewall/router settings

  • Antivirus exceptions

  • VPN test

Recommended Diagnostic Tools

  • VPN Test – checks if routing is causing high ping or packet loss

  • Mobile Hotspot – isolates your network as the cause

  • MTR – identifies packet loss and routing problems

  • Firewall & Antivirus check – Add the Hunt installation folder and exe to the anti virus exceptions; make sure to include both hunt.exe in /Hunt Showdown and HuntGame.exe in /Hunt Showdown/bin/win_x64

Note: VPN, hotspot and MTR tests are for diagnostics only and not permanent solutions.

Sending a Network Report to Support

How to submit a customer support ticket:

  1. In the bottom right corner of the page, you’ll see “Please log in for Support”.

  2. Login with your Crytek account, and select “Ask a question”.

  3. Follow the bot flow, and fill out the form with the required details (see below).

  4. Attach logs, screenshots, or MTR results

What to include in your ticket

  • Type of network issue (rubberbanding, high ping, 0 ping, 0x30001)

  • Results of VPN and mobile hotspot tests

  • MTR / traceroute outputs

  • Screenshots or error messages

  • Connection type (fiber, cable, DSL, mobile)

  • ISP and location

Notes

  • Only use diagnostic steps listed above; do not modify network infrastructure unless you know how

  • VPN, mobile hotspot and MTR are for testing, not permanent fixes

  • Persistent issues may require contacting your ISP
