Troubleshooting performance Issues

This guide helps you identify and fix performance problems such as low FPS, stuttering, freezing, or frame drops. It explains how issues appear, possible causes, diagnostic steps, and how to report the problem to support if needed.

Quick Performance Checklist

Try these steps first to see if performance improves:

  • Update GPU drivers

  • Install all Windows updates

  • Close unnecessary background applications

  • Restart your PC

These steps often solve most performance issues without further troubleshooting.

Common Performance Issues

Low FPS (Frames Per Second)

How it presents:

  • Gameplay feels choppy

  • Character movement is not smooth

Possible causes:

  • Graphics settings too high for your hardware

  • Outdated GPU drivers

  • Background programs using CPU or GPU

Diagnostic steps:

  • Check FPS using in-game counter

  • Test by lowering graphics settings

  • Close background apps

Stuttering / Microstutter

How it presents:

  • Frame drops for a fraction of a second repeatedly

  • Input feels delayed

Possible causes:

  • VRAM running out

  • CPU or GPU bottleneck

  • Background applications or Windows processes

Diagnostic steps:

  • Monitor CPU, GPU, RAM, and VRAM usage in Task Manager

  • Lower texture quality or resolution

Freezes / Temporary Lockups

How it presents:

  • Game freezes for a few seconds, then resumes (if the freeze only lasts fractions of a second, it's called a stutter)

  • Sometimes followed by crash to desktop

Possible causes:

  • Hard drive or SSD issues

  • Memory leaks from the game or other software

  • Driver issues

Diagnostic steps:

  • Verify game files in Steam or your launcher

  • Run Disk Check (CHKDSK)

  • Update GPU and system drivers

FPS Drops in Specific Locations

How it presents:

  • FPS is fine in some areas, drops in others

  • Happens near high-density textures or objects

Possible causes:

  • High texture streaming requirements

  • Location specific in-game bugs

  • Certain graphics settings like shadows or post-processing

Diagnostic steps:

  • Lower texture quality and shadows

  • Check VRAM usage

  • Install the game on SSD if available

Recommended Diagnostic Tools

  • Task Manager / Resource Monitor – track CPU, GPU, RAM usage

  • Check Disk (CHKDSK) – scan for storage issues

  • GPU driver updates – ensure latest stable drivers

Tip: Close unnecessary background applications, overlays, and Windows processes to improve performance.

Reporting Performance Issues to Support

If problems persist after troubleshooting, submit a support ticket with the following information:

Include in your report

  • Type of performance issue (low FPS, stutter, freeze, area-specific drop)

  • FPS numbers and usage stats (CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM)

  • Steps already tried (settings changes, driver updates, background apps closed)

  • Screenshots or video captures if available

  • DxDiag.txt

    • Open your start menu, and type "dxdiag.exe".

    • When the program launches, click "Save all information" which should be in the lower right corner of the window.

    • Save this text document to a place of your choosing.

    • Attach this document to your ticket.

How to submit a ticket

  1. Go to huntshowdown.comSupportAsk a Question

  2. Log in with your Crytek account

  3. Follow the bot flow and fill out the form

  4. Attach any relevant files

  5. Submit and wait for a reply from the support team

Notes

  • Ensure your system meets at least the minimum requirements:

64 bit operating system

Windows 10 64 bit

Intel 7th Gen 7700 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600

8 GB RAM

NVIDIA GTX 1650 Super or AMD RX 5500 XT (4 GB VRAM minimum)

DirectX 12 support

  • Use SSD storage if possible for faster texture streaming

  • Close background apps, overlays, and unnecessary Windows processes for optimal performance
