Shootout — Step-By-Step Guide

Shootout

Step-by-Step Guide

Exact steps for every documented Shootout task.

Logging In and Opening Shootout

Use this every time you start a new session.

  1. Log in to the CUE Platform

  2. From the top product navigation bar, click Shootout

Creating a New Instance

Use this when setting up a Shootout activation for the first time or for a new event.

  1. From the Shootout instances view, click the button to add a new instance

  2. Select the sub-engagement this instance is for — Football (QB Toss), Hockey (Slapshot), Basketball (Swish), Carnival, Baseball (Grand Slam), or Soccer (Goal) — only purchased sub-engagements appear

  3. Confirm the selection — the instance is created and opens to the configuration view

Important: Each instance is tied to one sub-engagement and cannot be changed after creation. If you need a different sub-engagement, create a new instance.

Configuring Event Planning

Use this to set how and when your activation runs.

  1. In your instance, go to the Control tab

  2. Locate the Event Planning section

  3. Choose your event planning mode:

  4. Off — you will start and stop the event manually with no automatic timing

  5. Duration — enter how long the event should run; it will stop automatically after that time

  6. Schedule — enter a start date and time and an end date and time; the platform manages start and stop automatically

  7. If using Schedule: decide whether to enable Automatic Reset — enables multiple play cycles with separate analytics and prize resets within the scheduled window

  8. Decide whether to enable Stop Event When Prizes Reach Zero — enable this if you have a limited prize supply and want the event to close automatically when prizes run out

Configuring the Control Tab

Use this to set up all gameplay and display settings before running the activation.

  1. In your instance, go to the Control tab

  2. Set Event Mode to Sync or Async

  3. If Async: decide whether to enable Free Play — allows players to play repeatedly rather than one attempt per session

  4. Set the Tutorial toggle — on shows players how to play before the game begins; off skips it

  5. Set the Touch to Start screen toggle — recommended on — enables sound for iPhone users who would otherwise have silent gameplay

  6. Set the Sound toggle to on or off

  7. If you have uploaded custom fonts in Design: enable Apply Custom Fonts to Buttons if desired

  8. Set the Gameplay Duration Timer — how long players have to shoot after the countdown finishes

  9. Set the Countdown Timer — the 5-4-3-2-1 timer before gameplay begins

  10. For Hockey (Slapshot) only: set the hockey stick visibility toggle and the target transition timer — around 5 seconds for general audiences; around 3 seconds for experienced players

  11. For Basketball (Swish) only: configure distance mechanic, static positioning, and HORSE mechanic as desired

Configuring Prizing

Use this to set up prizes for your activation. Read all steps before configuring — distribution mode depends on your operation mode.

  1. Go to the Prizing tab in your instance

  2. For each prize type you want to award, configure the condition:

  3. Points prize — set the minimum point threshold the player must reach

  4. Rank prize — set the rank range (e.g., rank 1 through rank 10)

  5. Participation prize — no condition threshold needed; awarded for playing

  6. Consolation prize — awarded to players who play but do not receive any other prize

  7. For each prize, set the distribution mode:

  8. Sync mode: Automatic or Manual — either works for all prize types

  9. Async mode — set Points to Manual

  10. Async mode — set Rank to Manual

  11. Async mode — set Consolation to Manual

  12. Async mode — set Participation to Automatic or Manual

  13. Connect each prize condition to a prize from Global Prizing

Important: In Async mode, Points, Rank, and Consolation prizes set to Automatic will distribute as soon as a condition is met — before all players have competed. Always set these to Manual in Async mode.

Tip: Before stopping an Async event, always check for pending manual prizes and distribute them first.

Running an Activation — Sync Mode

Use this on event day for a simultaneous live activation.

  1. Confirm the mainboard output is open and fullscreen on your display device

  2. Confirm the participant QR code or URL is posted or distributed to guests

  3. Confirm you are on the Control tab

  4. At the moment you want everyone to start playing, click Start and confirm

  5. The countdown timer runs, then gameplay begins — the mainboard shows real-time 3D shot animations

  6. When the gameplay timer expires the session ends automatically and the leaderboard is displayed

  7. Distribute any manual prizes before stopping the event

  8. Stop the event to close the session

Tip: In Sync mode the activation handles itself after you click Start — coordinate the timing with your event moment for maximum impact.

Running an Activation — Async Mode

Use this for an extended activation where players participate on their own schedule.

  1. Confirm the mainboard output is open and displaying on your screen if using one

  2. Share the participant QR code or URL via signage, social media, or your event app

  3. Confirm you are on the Control tab

  4. Click Start and confirm to open the activation

Note: In Async mode the mainboard shows an active leaderboard with a 3D background scene. Players join and play on their own — the operator does not need to manage stages.

  1. Let the activation run for your intended window — hours, days, or until your scheduled end time

  2. When ready to close: check for any pending manual prizes and distribute them first

  3. Stop the event to close the session

Important: Do not stop an Async event without first distributing manual prizes. The platform will warn you, but check before clicking Stop to avoid missing anyone.

Viewing Analytics and Exporting a Report

Use this after your event to review performance data.

  1. Go to the Analytics tab in your instance

  2. If you have multiple instances, use the instance dropdown to select the correct one

  3. Review the session list — each entry shows date, time, QR scans, total players, unique players, returning players, total time played, and total prizes delivered

  4. Click the export option for any session to download a detailed report
