Congratulations on landing a new engagement!

Now that you have been connected with a mentee, here are a few things you need to do that ensure the engagement will go smoothly.

Meet with the mentee

Set up a first meeting time with your mentee. Often times this first meeting with your mentee is spent getting acquainted, learning more about the mentee's current needs & goals, and establishing the direction your engagement will head.

After this first meeting, there are a few tasks for you to complete on the platform.

Let us know if it is a good fit

We care deeply about creating amazing mentor/mentee matches and want your feedback to know if we did a good job. Provide feedback to us by completing the "Rate your new engagement" task on your home page (image below).

In this flow, you select a rating from "Not good" to "OMG Perfect!" and provide a free text response that explains why you chose that rating. We want to ensure that:

  • You and your mentee are able to connect on a personal level. Relationships aren't created instantly, but we want you to be confident that over time it can develop into a meaningful relationship for you both.

  • You are well suited to lead the mentee to their goal. This definition can widely vary across engagements depending on their needs.

The rating and explanation is only seen by Curious Cardinals admins, so be candid with your response! If you select a "Not good" or "Okay" rating for your engagement, we will reach out with support and may rematch you with another mentee.

Additionally you will be asked to respond to a question asking "What is one thing you and your student will accomplish together". This response WILL be shared with the student's parent to inform them of the direction the engagement will head. This does not have to be completely defined yet, but be as specific as possible to reassure parents.

Set a lesson cadence

If you think this engagement is a good fit for you, then it's time to set a recurring meeting time with your mentee! Head to the "Schedule sessions" task on your dashboard. It will provide information on how to approach this conversation with your mentee's parent if you have not already done so and take you to a scheduling flow to create your sessions with your mentee.

Refer to this session scheduling best practices guide for further information.

Congrats! You have setup your engagement for smooth sailing. If you need anymore guidance, please reach out to your Slack support channel!
