Why were my photos cropped when they uploaded?

Aspect ratio

Written by Anders Bill

When you upload an image, Darkroom automatically fits it to the nearest standard print aspect ratio. This ensures any unexpected cropping or stretching during production.

Once your photo is assigned an aspect ratio, your shop will automatically filter and display only the print sizes that perfectly match those dimensions.

How it works (An Example):

Let’s say you upload an image that is 4000 x 5200 pixels:

  1. Darkroom will gently crop the file to x4000 x 5000 pixels to match a standard 4:5 aspect ratio.

  2. Your available print sizes for that image will automatically lock to matching options like 8x10, 12x15, 16x20, and 20x25 inches.

By aligning your digital file with real-world print dimensions right from the start, we help you provide a seamless, high-quality buying experience for your customers!
