The profit from any print sale will depend on 4 variables:
cost of the print
sales price
discounts
Darkroom fee
The cost of the print will be shown to all creators in the 'pricing' tab on their Darkroom dashboard. We never recommend pricing any products <1x the cost of the print.
The sales price will also be shown in the 'pricing' tab on the Darkroom dashboard and can also be changed in that same tab. Pricing is a challenging exercise, we advise creators to talk to other creators about how they thought about the value of their own work.
Discounts will be taken from the sales price of the print and can never exceed the cost of the print. Discounts are always taken off the sales price of the print.
The Darkroom fee is set to 5% for all Darkroom+ members and 15% for all creators on our Free plan. The Darkroom fee is taken from the sales price of the product.
Here is an example:
A creator who is on Darkroom+ is selling a fine art print for $100. The cost of this print is $10 and they have set a storewide discount of 10%.
A customer purchases this print with the $10 discount and pays $5 in shipping, thus paying $95.
Darkroom charges a 5% fee on the $90 sales price of this print and thus takes $4.50. Out of the $85.50 remaining, the $10 print cost is deducted, leaving the artist with a $75.50 profit.
