Troubleshoot a poor or lost LTE (cell) internet connection (Dairy WOW 4000 with LTE only)

A poor internet connection will slow down data the flow of data to Datamars Livestock. A lost connection will prevent data flow altogether.

To troubleshoot an LTE internet connection:

Log in to OpenWRT

  1. Stand beside the control unit.

  2. Use a laptop to search for the control unit Wi-Fi. This is a unique Device ID, but it will always begin with the letters RWOW-

  3. Enter the network security key (password).
    This is scorpio followed by the last 6 characters of the unique Device ID, as used in the Wi-Fi network name. Type the characters exactly as they appear, using lower case letters and no spaces. Example:

  4. In an internet browser address bar, enter the URL 192.168.50.1 to launch the OpenWRT configuration page:

  5. The OpenWRT login page will be displayed.

    💡 If the OpenWRT login is not displayed, press the Home key on your keyboard to reveal the full URL and change https://192.168.50.1 to http://192.168.50.1.

  6. Log in with these credentials:

    • Username = root

    • Password = scorpio followed by the last 6 characters of the unique Device ID. The Device ID can be seen at the top of the screen. Example:

    The laptop will now be logged in to OpenWRT.

Check the Signal Quality graph

  1. Log in to OpenWRT, as above.

  2. Click on Statistics, Graphs then on the Connections tab.


    The Average Signal Quality on the quality_ltemodem graph should be 37% or higher:

If the Last Signal Quality is 0, check the 4G LTE antenna connections:

If the Average Signal Strength % is too low, reposition the 4G LTE antenna. If this doesn't work, try a third-party antenna with a longer cable and mount it in a different location (e.g. high on a pole).
