Understanding Charging Options for Ara
It’s important to consider your charging options when outfitting your Ara. You’ll need to choose the combination of connectors that works best for your lifestyle and driving habits.
Connector Combinations
You can outfit your Ara with one of two connector combinations: AC J1772 and CHAdeMO, or AC J1772 and CCS. In other words, one AC connector and one DC connector are required. Bear in mind, however, that CCS vehicles can still be charged via a Level 2 AC J1772 connector.
AC Connector
The AC (Alternating Current) connector is a Level 2, 240-volt AC plug and charge system. This is approved by UL and has become the primary connector for charging stations across the United States.
DC Connector
Ara's DC (Direct Current) connector is a residential 240-volt AC plug and charge system. It’s available in two types: CHAdeMO and CCS. It is not limited by the vehicle’s onboard charger and delivers 15.2 kW to your EV.
