How does solar charging works?

Optimize your solar energy consumption, reduce charging costs, and improve your energy performance

Updated over 2 weeks ago

1. Why this feature exists

At DejaBlue, we believe EV charging can be smarter, more cost-effective, and more sustainable. That’s why we developed an optimized solar charging feature, directly integrated into our application.

This feature allows users to make the most of the solar energy available on their site by automatically adjusting charging sessions to align with photovoltaic production. The benefits are clear:

Economic

Solar-optimized charging avoids high grid electricity rates, resulting in significant savings. In some cases, charging costs can be reduced by up to 40%.

Environmental

By syncing charging with solar production, users reduce their reliance on the grid and lower indirect CO₂ emissions. This supports a broader energy transition and low-carbon strategy.

Energy performance

The feature significantly increases your self-consumption rate. Initial feedback shows gains of up to 20 percentage points, enhancing the financial and ecological return on your solar investment.

2. Step-by-step operation

The solar charging feature is accessible directly via the DejaBlue app, with no additional hardware required. It relies on a centralized algorithm that intelligently manages the charging based on real-time and forecasted solar production at your site.

Step 1 – Select charging mode

Users can choose between two modes at the start of each session:

  • Eco charging (solar optimized): Charging is delayed to align with periods of solar production. Our algorithm automatically determines the best time to start charging.

  • Priority charging: Charging starts immediately, regardless of solar availability.

Step 2 – Real-time adjustment

In Eco mode, our centralized algorithm continuously monitors solar production and automatically adjusts charging to maximize the share of solar energy.

If solar production is insufficient for an extended period, charging will automatically start to ensure the vehicle reaches an adequate charge level. Users do not have to choose between sustainability and reliability.

Step 3 – Switch modes at any time

Users can switch between modes at any time through the DejaBlue app. The change is instantaneous and does not interrupt the charging session.

3. Charging workflow

Below is the typical sequence of a solar-optimized charging session, as displayed in the DejaBlue app:

  1. Choose your charging mode

After scanning the QR code on the charger, select the desired mode:

    • Eco charging (solar optimized)

    • Priority charging

  2. Session initialization

Start the session and wait a few moments. The charger sends a small amount of energy to verify that the vehicle is correctly connected.

  3. Connection confirmed

Once the connection is validated, a confirmation screen will indicate that everything is ready.

  4. Intelligent standby

In Eco mode, the session enters standby while waiting for sufficient solar production to begin charging.

  5. Automatic charging

As soon as solar energy production is high enough, charging starts automatically. No further action is required from the user.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will my vehicle still be charged if there’s not enough sun?

Yes. Even in Eco mode, the system guarantees that charging will occur. If solar production is too low, charging will start automatically to ensure the vehicle is ready.

Can I set a target time for the vehicle to be fully charged?

Not yet. This feature is under development and will be available in a future update. For now, the system ensures charging based on solar availability and a minimum charge threshold.

Can I change the charging mode after starting a session?

Yes. You can switch between Eco and Priority modes at any time via the app. The change is instant and seamless.

Is my solar installation compatible?

Yes. The feature works with all solar installations, regardless of panel brand. No specific configuration is required.

How does the algorithm know when to start charging?

Our centralized algorithm collects real-time data from your site’s solar production and adjusts charging times accordingly to maximize solar usage while ensuring full charge availability.
