There are three main types of connectors available in Europe.
🔌 Type 2 Connector
This is the most widespread connector in Europe. It is dedicated to alternating current (AC) charging and is compatible with all electric vehicles.
It allows for the charging of vehicles between 7.4 kW and 22 kW.
This power depends on:
The power of the charger
The capacity of the charging cable
The power of the onboard AC/DC converter in your vehicle
🔌 CCS Connector (Combined Charging System)
This is the most widespread fast-charging connector in Europe. It is dedicated to direct current (DC) charging and compatible with the majority of electric vehicles.
It allows for the charging of vehicles between 30 kW and 350 kW.
This power depends on:
The power of the charger
The type of vehicle and battery architecture
The state of charge of the vehicle
🔌 CHAdeMO Connector
This is a charging connector originally designed in Japan. CHAdeMO is a solution for rapid charging in direct current (DC) that is tending to disappear in favor of the CCS Combo.
It allows for a charging power of vehicles up to 100 kW. However, the majority of public charging stations offer a maximum power of 50 kW.
