Configure your financial model
If you have selected one of the financial priority outcomes on the Key Metrics page, a financial model template will be generated based on your project setup from the previous steps. You can download the Excel template on the Financials page.
After you have downloaded this Excel template, open it with Microsoft Excel. If you open it with Google Sheets, Numbers on Apple devices or other programs, the file will not upload properly back to Delve.
Once you open the file in Excel, you will see three sheets in the file:
Summary
Site and Building Assumptions
Tips & Tricks
The first sheet is a Summary sheet, this sheet gives you a summary of the results for the entire project. Don’t worry that it looks empty now and you don’t need to edit anything on this sheet.
Now you can go to the second sheet – Site and Building Assumptions sheet, this is where you can enter the assumptions for the model to run cost and value estimations. All the cells colored in yellow are where you can edit. If you don’t have the assumptions ready in hand, you can leave the cells blank. As long as there are no errors and this is what you expected, the financial model will work with what you entered. All the geometry data provided in the template now are temporary data to help you enter your inputs, they are not final data generated from Delve.
If you need help understanding terms used in the template or what a font color means, you can go to the third sheet Help and Definitions (Tips & Tricks) to find out.
There are also other geometry data sheets hidden in the file. If you are curious about what geometry data will be populated from a generated design, you can unhide those sheets and you will see the columns filled with temporary data.
When you finish filling out the Site and Building Assumptions sheet, you can go back to the Summary sheet to check if the results fall in the range of what you expected. If there are error messages or values that look off, please go back to the Site and Building Assumptions sheet to adjust your inputs. If there are no errors (colored in red) and the result summary table has all the cells in dark green color, you are ready to save the file and upload it back to Delve.
Ready for upload
Not ready for upload
After you upload the file to Delve, it will run a quick validation to see if the file contains other errors. If there are any problems, you will see the error messages on the same page. You will need to fix the errors as indicated in the Excel file you were editing and re-upload the file.
If the file is successfully uploaded, you are ready to hit the Generate Designs button to start generating the study.
For every design generated for the study, it will make a new copy of the uploaded Financial Model file with your inputs and populate the geometry data from the design to the copy. You will be able to download the financial model with design's geometry inputs from the design details page after study is ready.
What happens next?
Congratulations on creating your study!
You will see a status page as Delve generates new designs based on the requirements you have provided. You will receive an email when the process has finished to view your results.
