Delve determines the number of elevators and emergency egress stairwells required for commercial buildings based on their size, type of use, and occupancy rate. Buildings with more than four stories also receive one freight elevator. In these buildings, cores are placed at the center of the top floor, aligned with the building's main axis, and extended to all floors. If a building contains a large podium, Delve may allocate two different (but adjacent) cores, one reaching only the podium floors and the other reaching all floors. This way, even though the podium floors may require more elevators and emergency stairwells, Delve does not take all elevators and stairwells to the top, freeing up valuable space for the building's main use.
For residential and hotel buildings, cores are also allocated based on the building's size, type of use, and occupancy rates. However, for these types of buildings, Delve also considers the area of each floor and, if necessary, allocates multiple separate cores to ensure that maximum travel distances to emergency egress stairwells are respected. In general, no point on a floor should be located more than 45 meters from an emergency stairwell. Additionally, in residential buildings, the number of elevators is fixed to two elevators per every other core. If a building has only one core, that core will contain two elevators and two stairwells. Otherwise, every core will contain one stairwell and every other core will have two elevators in addition to the aforementioned stairwell.
Parking only and one-story buildings are currently not allocated cores.
