When analyzing qualitative data, you often need to examine how different groups of participants responded to your questions. Filtering lets you focus on specific subsets of your data - for example, you might want to understand how Sociology researchers answered particular questions, or compare responses across different academic fields. The filtering tools in Delve help you explore these patterns in your data.

Converting questions for filtering

Before you can filter by a question, you'll need to convert it to a single choice question type. This works well for demographic or categorical questions in your research, such as "Academic Field" or "Research Methodology". Here's how:

  1. Click the down arrow next to the question name at the top of the column

  2. Select "Convert to single choice"

  3. Note: After converting to single choice, you won't be able to code these responses, but you can use them as filters

Filtering using the filter menu

The filter menu lets you select multiple criteria to narrow down your survey responses. For instance, you might want to examine responses from both Sociology and Psychology researchers. Follow these steps:

  1. Click the "Add filter" button at the top of your survey view

  2. Select the question you want to filter by (such as "Academic Field")

  3. Choose one or more options from the filter menu that appears (like "Sociology" and "Psychology")

Quick filtering from the table

You can also quickly filter by clicking directly on responses in your table. For example, if you see an interesting response from a Sociology researcher:

  1. Find their "Academic Field" response

  2. Click on "Sociology" in the table

  3. The view will automatically update to show only respondents from Sociology departments
