Engagement: Automatically Send Post-Op Instructions to Patients After Their Appointment

Learn how to set up automated post-op instructions and enable the Post-Op Instructions TouchPoint

Dental Intelligence Engagement allows you to automatically send post-operative instructions to patients following specific procedures. This helps ensure a smooth recovery process and consistent communication with your patients.

1. Map Post-Op Instructions to Procedure Codes

  1. From the Engagement dashboard, click the Settings gear icon in the top-right corner

  2. Select the Consents tab, then click on the Post-Op automation section

  3. Click the Post-Op automation button

  4. Click into the Procedure code field and choose the procedure that should be mapped to post-op instructions

  5. From the Consent dropdown, select the post-op instructions document associated with the procedure

  6. Click Add to save the mapping

2. Set Up the Post-Op Instructions TouchPoint

  1. From the left-side menu, click Follow Ups, then choose TouchPoints

  2. In the Appointments category, click the Add TouchPoint button

  3. From the dropdown list, choose Post-Op Instructions

  4. Select how many hours after the appointment the message should be sent

  5. Choose the delivery method (text or email)

  6. Click Add to save

  7. Lastly, be sure to toggle the switch to enable the Post-Op TouchPoint (green means it’s active ✅)

Tip: Review the TouchPoint Timeline to make sure all of your TouchPoints are being sent out in the order/timeframe that works best for your practice.

Optional: Edit Post-Op Message Content

  1. If you'd like to make changes to the message that's included with your post-op instructions, return to Settings and click on the Verbiage tab

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list and expand the Post-Op section

  3. Click the pencil icon to edit the message

  4. Once finished, click Save. Your changes will be automatically applied to all future messages

That’s it! Your post-op instructions are now automated. Patients will receive the right information at the right time, improving follow-up care and patient satisfaction.
