I have created automation for triggering emails when the application moves to a certain status but unfortunately haven't seen any email triggering. What might be the issue?

Please make sure you've configured SendGrid integration. You can check this by navigating to Company Settings > Integrations > SendGrid Email Delivery. After setting up the integration, you would be able to track and automate your email workflow. If SendGrid integration is not configured, you will receive system notifications only.
