Overview
Dispel can enable Microsoft Remote Assistance (MSRA) for specific stacks to enable an admin to join, view, and control a user's session. This feature is often helpful for those who need to:
Train new users
Collaborate on troubleshooting and diagnosing issues
Supervise user sessions in real-time
By default, this feature is restricted for security purposes. If you're interested in seeing this feature in action, watch an MSRA video walkthrough!
Pre-Requisites
If your organization requires the ability for more than 1 user to join and operate within a single VDI session, please reach out to your Dispel representative to set up your Golden Images accordingly.
User Walkthrough
Create an Invitation File
1. Run Windows Remote Assistance by either:
Searching
remote assistance
in the start menuLocating
msra
icon on your desktop, orRight-clicking on the "Start" icon, selecting "run" and running
msra
seen in the screenshot below.*By default only administrators can run this, so using a non-admin
guest-user
will give you an error message.
2. Next, create an invitation file by selecting Invite someone you trust to help you
.
3. Choose how you want to send your invitation file to your admin. If you save the file to your virtual desktop, you will need a file transfer method in place (OneDrive, Box, Drive Mapping, etc.). If you are unsure about your organization's file transfer capabilities, please reach out to your admin.
Enabling the MSRA Session
1. Send the invitation file as well as the password to your Administrator. They must open the file on their own Dispel virtual desktop.
2. At this point, notify your administrator to open the invitation file on their own Dispel virtual desktop and enter the invite password. A confirmation of approval will be sent to the user's virtual desktop.
3. Back on the Vendor’s virtual desktop, authorize the connection by selecting Yes
.
4. At this point, the Admin’s virtual desktop can view the activity on the Vendor’s machine, but can’t perform any tasks. To allow the Admin to operate on the Vendor's virtual desktop, have the admin select Request Control
in the top left-hand corner of the Remote Assistance window. A confirmation of approval will be sent to the user's virtual desktop.
5. On the Vendor’s machine, authorize the Admin’s machine to share control of the computer. Check the User Account Control prompt checkbox if you’d like.
6. Both users can now view and control the Vendor’s machine.
