💡 End goal: Vendor submits request for help to Administrator, who then remote controls the Vendor’s virtual desktop.
1. Run Windows Remote Assistance by either searching remote assistance
in the start menu, or by running msra
. By default only administrators can run this, so using a non-admin guest-user
will give you an error message.
2. Next, create an invitation file:
3. Send the invitation file to the Administrator Dispel virtual desktop. Copy the password over as well.
4. Open the invitation file, and enter the password:
5. Back on the Vendor’s virtual desktop, authorize the connection:
6. At this point, the Admin’s virtual desktop can view the activity on the Vendor’s machine, but can’t perform any tasks. Select Request Control
in the top left-hand corner of the Remote Assistance window:
7. On the Vendor’s machine, authorize the Admin’s machine to share control of the computer. Check the User Account Control prompt checkbox if you’d like:
8. Both users can now view and control the Vendor’s machine.
