Add TOTP as my first MFA method

You currently have no MFA, and want to add an additional form of authentication.

What You Will Need

  1. Your Dispel login credentials

  2. A TOTP app

  3. A safe place to store recovery codes

For TOTP app download links, please refer to the TOTP section of the Overview

How To Do It

1. In the lower left corner of the Console, click on the circle with your initials, then click on Account Settings

2. Scroll down to the "Two-factor Authentication" section and click Turn On

3. Since it is your first form of MFA, you will see a list of recovery codes. Save your recovery codes in a safe place

4. After saving your recovery codes, click "I saved them, show me the next step."

5. You will see a QR code and a text secret. These two are equivalent. In your TOTP app, scan the QR code.

6. Your TOTP app should automatically save your Dispel account and generate a six digit token every minute. To verify that MFA works, type in the six digit token you see, and click "Set up authenticator app."

7. If the code is accepted you're redirected back to the Settings page, where you'll see that Two-factor authentication has been "Enabled". If you want to be extra sure that MFA works now, sign out of your account and sign back in.

Logging in with TOTP

  1. Enter your username and password as usual

2. You will be prompted for your six-digit token. Enter the token you see in your app.

3. Congratulations, you're in!
