Introduction

Alongside the web dashboard (dashboard.dispel.io), Dispel offers a VPN client for Windows, iOS, and macOS. This application allows users to connect to their end devices on their local computer, as well as reserve and connect to Dispel Virtual Desktops like they would on the web dashboard.

💡 Not Using a Windows OS?

This guide covers the Windows VPN Client Application. Guides for other operating systems can be found here.

Pre-Requisites

In order for your VPN Client application to populate the correct resources, your administrator will first need to:

  • Set up your Dispel user account as a "User" as the Organization level

  • Add your Dispel user account to the Region and Facility you need to connect to

  • Configure the device ACLs for your user account

If you are unsure about any of this, please reach out to your administrator.

Downloading the Application

First Time Installation Tips

Please ensure the below is true on your local machine prior to installing the Dispel VPN Client Application.

  • Completely uninstall previous Dispel Nigma client app

  • Uninstall OpenVPN unless you use it as a regular personal VPN client

  • Ensure PC can install apps from trusted sources. (Settings -> Update and Security -> For developers)

  • Ensure Powershell can run remote signed scripts (Settings -> Update and Security -> For developers -> Powershell)

Downloading the Installer from Web Dashboard

  1. Navigate to the Downloads page of the Dispel Dashboard and select "Windows."

  2. A download will begin. Unzip the folder, and run the installer from the unzipped folder.

  3. When asked to "Allow this application to make changes?", select "Yes."

  4. Open the Dispel application.

Using the Dispel Application

Signing In

  1. Now you can log in using your Dispel user's credentials.

    1. If you are using enforced MFA, you will be prompted to enter your code.

💡 Not Using a Dispel Login?
If using Okta or Microsoft SSO, navigate to "Settings" in the Dispel App, and click the appropriate toggle to enable the correct sign-in method.

Requesting Access

  1. Once logged into the application, you will see the Organizations, Regions, and Facilities that your user is a member of.

    1. In the example below, within the "Dispel Internal" Organization, there is a "C.VPN" Region as well as a C.VPN Facility within it.

  2. If a lock appears next to your facility in the list, click the facility and follow the link provided in the pop-up dialog box to request access.

    1. If you already have access to the necessary facility, proceed to the next section, Connecting with Dispel.

💡 Need to Request Access?

Follow this guide on Requesting Access to a Facility to complete your access request form in the Dispel Dashboard.

Connecting with Dispel

  1. After being granted an access window, return to the Dispel Application and select the Facility you would like to connect to in the left menu.

  2. To connect to that Facility's network, click "Connect with VPN".

    1. You will now be able to access your end devices as if you were using a Dispel Virtual Desktop. However, your computer's connection will be going through the VPN tunnel, so you will not have access to external internet while connected.

💡 Note: If you have a reserved Virtual Desktop, you can only connect through the Desktop until it is destroyed.
