Introduction

Alongside the web dashboard, Dispel offers a VPN client for Windows, iOS, and macOS. This application allows users to connect to their end devices on their local computer as well as reserve and connect to Dispel Virtual Desktops like they would on the web dashboard.

This guide covers the Windows VPN application. The guides for the other operating systems can be found here.

Prerequisites

Your administrator will first need to help you setup a user and add your user to an region and facility to be able to connect (this will be the same user you use in the dashboard). If you are unsure about any of this, please reach out to your administrator.

Downloading the Application

Navigate to the Downloads page of the Dispel Dashboard and click Windows.

A download will begin. Unzip the folder, and run the installer from the unzipped folder.

When asked to allow this application to make changes select Yes

Open the Dispel application.

Using the Dispel Application

Signing In

Now you can log in using your Dispel user's credentials.

If using Okta or Microsoft SSO, navigate to Settings and click the appropriate toggle to enable the correct sign-in method.

If you have MFA enabled, you can select your preferred method for authenticating

From this main screen you can access your Region / Facility in the left-hand column and Devices / Resources in the next column.

Requesting Access

If a lock appears next to your facility in the list, click the facility and follow the link provided in the pop-up dialog box. If you already have access to the necessary facility, proceed to Connecting with Dispel.

Log in to the Dispel dashboard

You should now be presented with the request access form. Enter your name to confirm your identity and click Confirm Identity

Select the facility that you will need to access and click Submit Facility. If you do not see the proper facilities on this screen, reach out to your administrator for assistance.

On this screen, you will state your reason for needing access. This will be included in the request to your administrators and access approvers. After filling out the box, click Submit reason for access

On the calendar page, select the day and time that you will need this access until, and then click Submit requested time. Within this window of time, you will be able to connect without further requests.

On this page, you will review your request info to ensure all necessary information is correct. After verifying the information, click Send access request.

Great, your access request is sent to the admins! At the bottom, you can see the list of admins who have received the access request email, as well as a direct link to your request that you can send to additional admins.

You will receive an email after the admin approves the request. Back in the Dispel VPN Application, hit Refresh and you will be able to connect.

Connecting with Dispel

To connect to the facility, simply click Connect with VPN

You will now be able to access your end devices as if you were using a Dispel Virtual Desktop. However, your computer's connection will be going through the VPN tunnel, so you will not have access to external internet while connected.

Note: If you have a reserved Virtual Desktop you can only connect through the Desktop until it is destroyed.
