Ok, you've deployed your first Recon-Resistant Network ("RRN"), and you've even added secure messaging capabilities. First things first, if this is your first RRN, you should have had a kickoff call with your account manager to walk you through the setup process. This guide is meant as a reference after that initial walkthrough.

Back to the action. The system says active and now you'd like to onboard your team. Great, just follow these few easy steps.

  1. Connect to your RRN. You can connect in the following ways:

   (a) With the Dispel application for your desktop or mobile phone.
   (b) With a Dispel Wicket; see detailed instructions here.

2. Once you're connected, please navigate to https://messaging.dispel.io

[troubleshooting] If the browser times out, or reports that the system is not able to connect, then (1) check to make sure the messaging server is active in the admin console, and (2) check your connection to the RRN.

3. Great! At https://messaging.dispel.io, you'll see the following screen.
Please provide an email address, username, and password to create your account.

[Please note] The messaging platform we've deployed in our RRN is an open source platform called Mattermost. We decided to use Mattermost because it is a feature rich application akin to Slack and allowed us to maintain complete control over inbound/outbound traffic. That means we can ensure your conversations are isolated and strictly confidential. We are also open source believers, which, of course, is why we open sourced Jak (a quick PGP alternative for encrypting files you wish to share).

5. Once you've created your account, you'll then need to create a Team! Mattermost will walk you through the team building process.

Then Provide a Team Name

And finally, Mattermost will populate a custom team URL for you!

6. Once you've created your team, you'll be automatically dropped into the "Town Square". This is the main general channel where all your users will begin when they first enter. This is a great channel to post general conversation and team wide information.

7. To invite other people, simply select the "Invite others to this team" link, just above the "Write a message..." box. There will be a link with a randomly generated invite code at the end (this can be customized for convenience). Simply copy this link and share it with your teammates. Assuming they are connected to the RRN, they will be immediately asked to create an account (Step 3) and they will automatically assigned to your team.

That's it! And now you are off to the races.

Ok, this should hopefully get you started! Please check out the other articles in this collection for more information on specific tasks. If you have any questions, please reach out.
