The "Learn Format" Button
Note: Previously, CarePilot learned your style by analyzing edits in your notes on an ongoing basis. However, we’ve seen how this process can be unintuitive for some users and may not show immediate results. That’s why we’ve introduced an additional new way to more explicitly teach CarePilot your preferred charting style: the Learn Format button.
What Does "Learn Format" Do?
The Learn Format button allows CarePilot to recognize your unique style of creating notes. By providing examples, you teach CarePilot how you prefer to structure sections like the History of Present Illness (HPI) or any other part of your documentation.
Think of it as teaching CarePilot to “write like you.”
When to Use It
You have a specific way of structuring your note, including particular headings, bullet points, or phrasing.
You want all future notes to use your consistent style and format automatically.
In other words, use the Learn Format button to teach CarePilot your unique approach to documentation.
How to Use It
Open a note you have created using the CarePilot platform
Click “Learn Format.”
CarePilot will analyze your example and “learn” your style, including headings, paragraph spacing, and preferred language.
In future notes, CarePilot will automatically apply the learned format to similar sections.
Notes on Usage in Note Studio
Each note type you create in Note Studio is treated independently. For example:
You might have a New Patient note type and a Returning Patient note type.
Each note type can be taught its own unique style via the Learn Format button, allowing you to create tailored formats for different patient visit types or situations.
This flexibility ensures that CarePilot can adapt to the specific documentation needs of different types of encounters.
Tips
Provide multiple examples if you have slightly different ways of writing the same section (e.g., pediatric vs. adult HPIs).
You can retrain CarePilot at any time if your style evolves or changes in the future.
Customize Template
What Does "Customize Template" Do?
The Customize Template button allows you to modify CarePilot’s default templates or create new ones directly from the review screen without having to navigate to the Note Studio. This ensures that each note includes exactly the sections and phrasing you need, saving you time and reducing repetitive edits.
When to Use It
You need a personalized Review of Systems (ROS) layout.
You want to add or remove lines in the default template (e.g., adding a specific symptom you always check for or removing a section that’s irrelevant to your workflow).
How to Use It
Open or create a note that has a PE/ROS Field.
Click “Customize Template.”
Edit the template as needed. For instance:
Add, remove, or reorder sections (e.g., adding a “Sleep” section or reordering “Psychiatric” to the top).
Modify default phrasing to match your clinical style.
Save your changes.
The updated template becomes your new default or an optional template you can select for future notes.
Tips
Keep the most commonly used sections at the top for quick access during documentation.
If you work with different visit types, create and label multiple templates (e.g., a “Wellness Check” template vs. a “Complaint-Focused” template).
Frequently Asked Questions
Can CarePilot remember multiple format styles at once?
Yes. You can teach CarePilot different styles for different sections or multiple variations of the same section. Each note type in Note Studio is treated independently, so you can create unique styles for different patient visit types.
Do I need to click “Learn Format” every time I write a note?
No. Once CarePilot has learned your format, it will continue to apply it automatically unless you retrain it with a new example or switch templates.
Is it possible to share my custom templates with colleagues?
Currently, custom templates and learned formats are associated with your account. If you want others to use the same format, they will need to use CarePilot and replicate the learning process in their own account.
Conclusion
By using Learn Format to teach CarePilot your style and Customize Template to tailor default templates, you can streamline your documentation process, ensure consistency, and reduce repetitive edits. These tools adapt CarePilot to your unique workflow, making documentation faster and easier.
We hope this guide helps you make the most of CarePilot’s powerful customization features!
