Setting Up Global Instruction Builds

Step-by-step guide for setting up instruction builds to operate globally across all documents

Global instruction builds apply across all organizations and trading parties in your Docupath tenant. These instructions sit at the lowest level of the scope precedence hierarchy - they are overridden by trading party, organization, and country specific instructions. Use global builds for baseline extraction behavior that should apply universally unless a more specific scope overrides it.

A global instruction build is a group that can hold several individual instructions, each with its own enable switch.

Prerequisites

  • The Instruction Builds feature must be enabled for your tenant

  • You must have the Admin role, as only Admins can create or edit Instruction Builds

How to Create a Global Instruction Build

Step 1 - Open the Main Menu

Click the dropdown arrow (▾) next to your user avatar in the top-right corner of the screen. This opens the main navigation menu, which lists all settings and features.

Step 2 - Go to "Instruction Builds"

In the main menu, click "Instruction Builds". This navigates you to the Instruction Builds management page.

Step 3 - Switch to the "Global" Tab

Click the "Global" tab. This is where instructions that apply across all organizations and trading parties are managed.

Step 4 - Click "Add New"

Click the "+ Add New" button in the top-right of the Instruction Builds page. A form for creating a new global instruction build will open.

Step 5 - Write the First Instruction

Click inside the first instruction card's text box and type your instruction. For example:

Translate all extracted Arabic text fields, header items and line items into English

Step 6 - Refine the Instruction (Optional)

Click the Refine with AI (magic wand) icon on that card. Docupath's AI rewrites and sharpens that one instruction and may surface feedback, errors, or suggestions. Other instructions in the group are left untouched. Wait for the response before proceeding.

If the card is still empty when you click the icon, a warning appears asking you to enter an instruction first.

Step 7 - Add Any Further Instructions

Click Add New Instruction to add another instruction card, and write the next instruction in it. Repeat for as many instructions as the group needs, and use each card's switch to control whether that instruction starts out enabled.

Keep each instruction to a single requirement rather than combining several into one card. The heading above the cards shows how many are currently enabled, for example "Instruction · 2 of 3 enabled".

Step 8 - Click "Save"

Click the "Save" button at the top of the screen. Docupath refines every instruction in the group first, then saves them.

If the AI flags any instruction as an exception, the save is blocked and a warning asks you to resolve the flagged instructions before saving. Reword the flagged instruction and save again.
