When you want to link two existing constituents, such as family members, colleagues, or organisational relationships, you can use the Connections worksheet in the Data Preparation Template.
This method does not create new constituents; it only adds relationship links between them.
β οΈ Important:
Ensure the Data Preparation Template is up to date. If required, click Update Template under Data Management, File Upload to refresh the available columns.
Prepare the Connections Worksheet
Go to Data Management, then click File Upload.
Download the Data Preparation Template.
Remove all worksheets except the one named Connections.
Enter one row per connection you wish to create.
Identify the Two Constituents to Connect
You must provide enough information for Donorfy to correctly locate each constituent.
You can match constituents using any of the following:
Identifier Options
Constituent Number.
External Key.
Email Address.
The worksheet contains From and To versions of each identifier.
For example if you wanted to connect constituent number 1000 to constituent number 2000 you would enter From Constituent Number = 1000 To Constituent Number = 2000.
You would leave the other from and to fields - i.e. external key and email address empty.
Add Optional Connection Details
In addition to identifying the two constituents, you may include the following:
Column | Description |
Connection Type | A valid connection type from your settings. This applies to the From connection; any reciprocal type is automatically applied to the To connection. |
Connection Details | Notes or comments to store with the connection. |
Connection From Date | The date the relationship began. |
Connection To Date | The date the relationship ended (if applicable). |
Connection Strength | A number from 1 to 5. |
Upload and Process the File
Save the workbook as an Excel (.xlsx) file.
Upload it to Data Management, File Upload.
Donorfy will check the file for:
Valid constituent identifiers.
Valid connection types.
Correct date formats.
Download the checked file to review the Status and Action columns.
If correct, click Apply Changes to create the connections.
