How to add someone by phone to an active Group Call

If someone can't join through their browser, you can call them through Dialer and add them to the same session.

  1. Open the Sidebar during your call

  2. Select Dialer

  3. Enter the participant’s name (required)

  4. Enter their phone number using the on-screen keypad

  5. Click Start call.

  6. Wait for the participant to answer.

While the call is connecting, you’ll see Calling [phone number]. You can cancel the phone call using the call controls.

When the participant answers, they’ll join the existing Group Call by audio. Everyone in the call will be able to hear one another.

💡 Dialer currently supports US phone numbers only.

Click the Dialer button to add a phone participant to a Group Call

How to start by phone and add browser-based participants

You can also begin with a phone call and add browser-based participants after the person answers.

  1. From the Dashboard, click Dialer (next to Invite Via)

  2. Enter the participant’s name and US phone number

  3. Click Start call

  4. Once the participant answers, open the Sidebar

  5. Open In waiting room

  6. Add the browser-based participants you want to include

You can't add another participant while the phone call is still ringing. Once the phone participant answers, you can add participants who are waiting to join through doxy.me.

What happens during a call with a phone participant

The phone participant joins by audio and appears in the call with an avatar instead of video.

Your Self-Preview and camera are turned off by default when the call begins by phone. You can turn your camera on if browser-based participants join and you want them to see you.

You can continue chatting with patients who are still in your Waiting Room.

When a call includes a phone participant, the following features are unavailable:

  • Apps

  • Screen Share

  • Video quality controls

  • Pause Session

The unavailable controls are disabled in the call interface.

💡 Group Calls containing both phone and browser-based participants cannot be paused.

How mixed calls appear in History

The Call type column in History shows how the session began:

  • A mixed call that began as a browser-based call is labelled Video.

  • A mixed call that began as a phone call is labelled Phone.

The same call type appears when you export your session History.
