DPD Ireland – Employing Family Members Policy
Scope of this policy
For the purpose of this policy immediate family includes husband and wife, civil partner, son and daughter (including stepchildren), grandchild, son-in-law and daughter-in-law, parent, grandparent, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother and sister, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Household includes individuals regularly sharing the staff member’s residence.
The recruitment policy of DPD is to hire the best qualified person available for a particular position. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all job applicants are considered impartially and on their own merits.
In selecting new employees and in evaluating existing employees, it is necessary for certain individuals at the organisation to judge the performance of other individuals. If family and/or other personal relationships are involved, it may be difficult to make objective, unbiased judgments. To avoid individuals in the organisation being placed in the position of having to make evaluations of members of their own immediate families or household, the following policies will apply to all employees.
No person employed by DPD shall work directly for or under the supervision of another member of his/her immediate family or household, even if one or more levels removed.
No person employed by DPD shall work in the same department or team as a member of another member of his/her immediate family or household without prior approval of the Head of HR. The request for approval shall include a written justification by the Department Manager concerned.
The Department Manager may approve the hiring of a member of the DPD Ireland employee’s immediate family or household provided the employees are not in the same department or administrative section, and provided that a written statement justifying the selection of the individual concerned is placed on record. A copy of this justification shall go to the Head of HR.
In no case shall a member of DPD staff be able to review the HR file of an immediate family or household member.
