In this article, you will learn the different tax registration number labels that can show depending on Canadian or Other accounts.

The field label, helper text, and invoice label automatically adjust based on the country already set in Company Settings — no extra configuration needed, it's automatic.

Comparison table:

Canadian Accounts

All Other Accounts

Field Label

"GST/HST Registration Number"

"Tax Registration Number"

Helper Text

"Enter your CRA-issued GST/HST registration number. Required for Canadian businesses collecting HST/GST."

"Enter your business tax registration number to display it on invoices (e.g., VAT number, GST number, state tax permit)."

Invoice Label

"GST/HST #:"

"Tax Reg #:"

Important detail: If no country is set on the account, the system defaults to the generic "Tax Registration Number" label (the non-Canadian version).

Example formats:

USA:

  • EIN (Employer Identification Number): 12-3456789

  • State Sales Tax Permit (varies by state, e.g., California): SR123456789

  • State Tax ID (e.g., Texas): 1-234-5678-9

Canada:

  • GST/HST Registration Number: 123456789 RT0001

    • First 9 digits = Business Number (BN)

    • RT = GST/HST program identifier

    • 0001 = branch/program reference number
