About This Tutorial

There are two ways that emails and SMS/text messages come from Duet:

  • Automatically, when you have it selected this option in your Messaging tab.

  • By you, the teacher, manually sending the communication.

This tutorial will show you how to turn off automatic emails and text messages for individual students/parents, so they no longer receive them. Also how to turn off specific messages for everyone.

Opt-Out Everyone

Let's say that your students don't need to be sent lesson reminders via email.

  1. Click on your name > Settings.

  2. Click on the Messaging tab.

  3. Scroll down to the Student Preferences section.

  4. Under the Message column, find Event Reminder. Notice how it is checked under the Send Email column. This means the feature is turned on.

  5. In the Send Email column, click in the check box to uncheck it. This will turn the feature off.

  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save Messaging Settings button.

Note: You can do these same steps for any messaging option in the list.

Opt-Out Individuals

If an individual student/parent does not want to receive these automatic communications, you can go into their Student listing and turn them off there.

In each Student listing, there are two options:

o Does not want emails check box

o Does not want text check box

If you check them they will stop automatic emails from sending. However, any manual emails that you send will still go through.

Let's say that one of your students no longer wishes to receive neither automatic email nor text notifications.

  1. Click on Students > Students List.

  2. Find and click on the student's name. In this example, it is Mozart.

You will be taken directly into his Student tab.

  3. Next to the Email field, click in the Does not want emails box to check it. This will block the student from receiving any automatic emails.

  4. Next to the Phone field, click in the Does not want text box to check it. This will block the student from receiving any automatic text messages.

โ€‹Note: A phone number needs to be filled in, otherwise the box will not check.

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the Save Student button.
