About This Tutorial

The Sharing Audio feature allows you to share audio, from your computer, with your students so they hear the audio on their computer. This feature shares your screen along with your audio.

There are two ways you can share your audio if you are on a Windows computer:

  • By sharing your entire screen

  • By sharing your browser tab

If you have an Apple computer, you can only share your audio through your browser tab.

This tutorial will walk you through how to share both ways, and why you might choose one over the other. The screenshots are from a Windows computer.

Share Audio From Your Entire Screen

You will want to share audio from your Entire Screen (Windows only) if you are using an audio player installed on your computer. Such as Windows Media Player, VLC, WinAmp, or iTunes.

Tip: Have the player open before sharing it to save some time.

  1. Click on the More actions (...) icon.

  2. Click on the Share audio option.

  3. You will see the How to share audio box. Click on the Continue button.

  4. Click on Entire Screen tab. This is chosen by default.

  5. Click on the Entire Screen box to highlight it.

  6. Click in the Share system audio box to check it. This is how you tell Online Studio to share your audio with your students.

  7. Click on the Share button.

When you see this popup box, you know that screen and audio sharing has been successful:

  8. Go to your audio player, in this case VLC, and click play.

Your students will now be able to hear, on their computer, the music you are playing from your computer.

Note: There will be about a one second delay between what you hear on your computer and what your student will hear on their computer. This is a known issue that all web conferencing software faces.

Share Audio From Your Browser Tab

You will want to share audio from your browser tab (both Windows and Apple) when you are sharing audio from an online app such as Amazon Music or Spotify.

Tip: Make sure to have the app open in a browser tab before trying to share it, otherwise it will not show up as an option.

  1. Click on More actions (...) icon.

  2. Click on Share audio.

  3. You will see the How to share audio box. Click on the Continue button.

  4. Click on Browser (in this case Chrome) tab.

  5. Choose the tab you wish to share. In this case the browser tab has Amazon Music.

  6. Click in the Share tab audio box to check it.

  7. Click on the Share button.

When you see this popup box, you know that screen and audio sharing has been successful:

  8. Go to the tab in your browser, where the music app is (in this case Amazon Music) and click play.

Your students will now be able to hear, on their computer, the music you are playing from your computer.

Note: There will be about a one second delay between what you hear on your computer and what your student will hear on their computer. This is a known issue that all web conferencing software faces.

Turn On Music Mode for Better Sound Quality

The sound quality that your students hear, when Music Mode is off, will be pretty good. If you want your students to hear even better sound quality, as you share your audio, turn on Music Mode.

This article shows you how to turn on Music Mode: Turn on Music Mode.
