Navigating a Workout on Apple Watch
Once you start a workout with DuoSwim on your Apple Watch, accessing additional options is essential for managing your swim effectively. Here’s how to navigate:
Disable Water Lock:
Watch OS 9: Press down the digital crown.
Watch OS 8 and below: Spin the digital crown.
Access Menu Options:
Swipe right on your Apple Watch screen to reveal menu options based on your current mode:
Lock: Enable water lock to prevent accidental touches.
Pause: Temporarily halt your workout and tracking.
Resume: Continue your workout from where you left off.
Drill Mode: Enter Drill Mode for specific drill sets (pool mode).
Exit Drill: Exit Drill Mode and input the distance covered (pool mode).
Next Rep: Progress to the next repetition in your guided workout.
Next Set: Move on to the next set if you’ve completed the current set in your guided workout.
Additional Controls
Pause or Resume: Simultaneously press both side buttons without unlocking water lock.
Advance to Next Rep: Spin the crown upwards to move to the next rep seamlessly, without disabling water lock.
These options empower you to maximize your swim session with DuoSwim, ensuring smooth navigation and efficient tracking directly from your Apple Watch.
Workout Overview
DuoSwim offers a seamless experience on your Apple Watch with three distinct modes: Guided Workouts, Pool Swim, and Open Water Swim. Whether you're in the pool or out in open water, here’s how to make the most of DuoSwim:
1. Guided Workouts
Sending a Workout to Your Apple Watch:
Ensure the workout is open and visible on your iPhone.
Open the DuoSwim Watch App and ensure it’s 'Connected'.
Green icon: Apple Watch successfully connected.
Red icon: Apple Watch disconnected.
Open the workout on your iPhone.
Tap 'Start' on your iPhone.
Tap 'Send to Watch' on your iPhone.
The workout will be displayed on your watch.
Navigating a Guided Workout:
Recording Split Times:
For example, in a "4x50 Free @ 1:30" workout:
Swim each 50 meters within the designated time frame.
Split times are automatically logged.
Timer continues for rest period.
Watch advances to the next rep after each interval.
Drill Sets:
Do not record split times.
DuoSwim credits your distance once the interval is complete.
Advancing Early:
Spin the crown upwards for a 3-second countdown.
Alternatively, turn off water lock, swipe to access the menu, and tap "Next rep".
Pause & Resume:
Press both side buttons simultaneously.
Alternatively, turn off water lock, swipe, and tap "Pause".
Ending Your Workout:
Workouts automatically end and save after the final interval.
To end early, turn off water lock, swipe to access the menu, tap "End," and confirm.
Logging a Workout:
Workouts automatically log to your profile.
Refresh the profile page if your workout doesn’t show up immediately.
2. Unguided Pool Swim
Tracking an Unguided Pool Swim:
Prepare for Your Swim:
Open the DuoSwim app on your Apple Watch.
Tap on "Pool Swim".
Set Your Pool Size:
Confirm the size of your pool for accurate tracking.
Start Your Workout:
Tap "Start Workout" to begin your swim.
Swim:
Enjoy your swim session!
Ending Your Workout:
Spin the digital crown and swipe left to right to open the menu.
Tap "End" and confirm to save your workout data.
During Your Swim:
The DuoSwim Apple Watch app displays:
Workout time
Distance swum
Average 100 pace
Real-time heart rate
Pausing Your Workout:
Pause your workout by unlocking the screen (water lock) with the digital crown and swiping right to access the menu.
Additional Features
Automatic Kick Detection: Available in watchOS 9. Ensures proper kick detection by resetting the accelerometer at the start and end of each rep.
Drill Mode:
Tracks non-competitive swimming styles during guided workouts.
Can be used during unguided swims to track drill sets.
Entering Drill Mode:
Turn off water lock by spinning the digital crown.
Swipe right to access the menu.
Tap "Drill Mode".
Exiting Drill Mode:
Turn off water lock.
Swipe right and tap "End Drill Mode".
Enter the total kick/drill distance and tap "OK" to resume your swim workout.
3. Open Water Swim
Tracking an Open Water Swim:
Enabling Location Services:
In the DuoSwim app, navigate to Profile > Settings > Account Settings.
Ensure "Open Water Location Services" is enabled.
Starting Your Open Water Swim:
On your Apple Watch, select "Open Water" from the main menu.
Check for optimal location accuracy.
Tap "Start Workout".
Ending Your Open Water Workout:
Disable water lock.
Swipe left to access the menu and select "End".
Confirm and tap "Save" to store your workout data.
Apple Watch Tips & Tricks
Mastering Water Lock on Your Apple Watch
When swimming, managing the touchscreen can be tricky due to water contact. Water Lock prevents accidental touches and clears water from the speaker.
Benefits of Water Lock:
Prevents accidental taps.
Expels water from the speaker to maintain optimal performance.
Seamless Integration with DuoSwim:
Automatically activates Water Lock at the beginning of each swim session.
Water Resistance:
Apple Watches (Series 2 and newer) are water-resistant up to 50 meters. Keeping Water Lock enabled during your swim reduces the risk of accidental taps.
Keeping Your Apple Watch Screen Active During Workouts
With Apple Watch Series 5 and later, the Always On feature keeps essential information visible without constantly raising your wrist.
Activating Always On:
Access the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
Tap Display & Brightness.
Scroll down and select Always On.
Toggle the feature on or off based on your preferences.
