How do we handle the air quality? What if it is snowing?

Rain

DUSC’s general rule is that we will not cancel an Outdoor Session for rain but will for lightning. We will suspend a session for lightning temporarily and wait until 30 minutes after the last lightning strike.

See below for policy on strike distances:

  • greater than 30 miles away: proceed unaffected

  • 20-30 miles away: proceed with monitoring

  • 10-20 miles away: proceed with caution and monitoring (use field space closer to shelters and gather all belongings under shelter before proceeding)

  • less than 10 miles away: seek shelter immediately

We can only suspend a session for a reasonable amount of time before darkness or another training session starts. Those circumstances would force a cancellation. Torrential rains that make fields unplayable would also warrant a cancellation. For this specific circumstance, DUSC will email a Cancellation Notice. If an email notice is not sent, activities will continue as scheduled. If possible, sessions will be made up if space and time are available to the club.

Air Quality Index (AQI)

The US Air Quality Index (AQI) is based on the level of certain pollutants in the air. Once the level reaches 151 it is labeled "Unhealthy." While we understand the numbers we also understand that all individuals have different tolerance levels as well as opinions. We, therefore, leave practice sessions up to individual coaches to make decisions with their team(s) on whether to hold practice or try to reschedule. Game days will be reviewed by DUSC.
