Barcode Scanners

How to set up and configure your barcode scanner to work with DX

DX supports use of barcode scanners to easily handle concession registration and sales.
The default DX barcode scanner is the Elo Edge Connect 2D Barcode Scanner, but most modern barcode scanners can be configured to work with DX.

When you use a barcode scanner to scan a barcode, the system output is a string.

You can test this by opening Notepad or another text input field before scanning a barcode. You will then get a text string representing the barcode you scanned, plus a prefix and\or suffix.

DX supports two types of strings:

  • Prefix: None | Suffix: None
Example: The barcode is 1234567890, and the scanned output is 1234567890.

  • Prefix: ¤ | Suffix: None
Example: The barcode is 1234567890, and the scanned output is ¤1234567890.

If your barcode scanner is configured with a different prefix or suffix, this must be changed. Typically, this is done by scanning a set of barcodes to configure the barcode scanner. You can find these barcodes in the manual that came with your barcode scanner.

Please note that if you are onboarding DX, reconfiguring your barcode scanner will result in it not working in your previous system. You would need to reconfigure it again if you need to use it in both systems while onboarding.

If your barcode scanner model is listed below, we've compiled the barcodes you need to scan in order to reconfigure your barcode scanner to work with DX.
