How often do I need to reapply Soap and Wax to Tadelakt?

Reapply Beeswax Sealer at least once per year; reapply Olive Oil Soap only when the surface shows signs of wear.

How often you need to reapply soap and wax depends on use. Proper maintenance of Earthaus Tadelakt is essential to preserve its water resistance, luster, and longevity. Routine cleaning and periodic resealing help maintain the integrity of the finish while preventing dulling, staining, or surface wear.

Beeswax Protective Sealer Maintenance

A coat of Beeswax Protective Sealer should be applied at least once per year in regularly used wet areas such as showers. More frequent application may be needed in high-traffic or heavily used spaces.

How to apply:

  1. Ensure the surface is clean and dry.

  2. Apply a thin, even coat of Beeswax Protective Sealer using a soft cloth.

  3. Allow to absorb and buff to a light sheen.

Why it matters: Beeswax restores the hydrophobic layer that protects the plaster from moisture intrusion and staining.

Olive Oil Soap Sealer — When to Reapply

The Olive Oil Soap Sealer does not need to be reapplied as part of regular maintenance unless the surface shows signs of wear, etching, or water absorption.

Indicators that Olive Oil Soap reapplication may be needed:

  • Water no longer beads on the surface

  • The finish appears dull or porous

  • Visible staining or discoloration from moisture

Reapplication steps:

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly and allow to dry completely.

  2. Apply 3 coats of diluted Olive Oil Soap Sealer, allowing each coat to absorb fully before applying the next.

  3. Once cured, follow with 2 coats of Beeswax Protective Sealer.

Summary of Maintenance Schedule

  • Daily / after use: Rinse with clean water and wipe dry if possible.

  • Monthly: Wipe down with a pH-neutral, plant-based cleaner.

  • Annually (or as needed): Reapply one coat of Beeswax Protective Sealer.

  • As needed: Full Olive Oil Soap + Beeswax resealing if the surface shows signs of wear.
