Straining Earthaus Marble Plaster is a critical preparation step that ensures a flawless, smooth finish. Because Marble Plaster contains no granular aggregate, even very fine impurities can remain visible on the polished surface.
Why Straining Is Required
Removes undissolved particles. Despite careful mixing, small undissolved lumps or dry clumps of pigment or plaster can remain in the mix. On a burnished surface, these particles cause surface defects, drag marks, and visible specks in the finished polish.
Ensures a consistent mix. Straining homogenizes the plaster, ensuring it is smooth throughout. A consistent mix applies more evenly, burnishes more predictably, and produces a more uniform color and sheen.
Prevents tool drag and trowel marks. Coarse particles caught under the trowel during application or burnishing can leave scratches or streaks in the polished finish. Straining eliminates this risk.
How to Strain Marble Plaster
Allow the mixed plaster to rest for 3–5 minutes after initial mixing.
Remix briefly before straining to make the plaster flow more easily.
Pass the plaster through a fine mesh paint strainer (typically 100–200 mesh).
Collect the strained plaster in a clean bucket.
Discard any material that does not pass through the strainer.
