What Are the Steps to Refinish Earthaus Marble Finish?

How to refinish a Marble Finish: light resurfacing over a sound existing finish, or full removal and reapplication for major defects.

Refinishing an Earthaus Marble Finish restores its visual clarity and smooth texture when major repairs are needed or when the installer or client is not satisfied with the existing finish. The refinishing process depends on the condition of the wall — either light resurfacing or complete reapplication may be required.

Light Refinishing — Resurfacing Over the Existing Finish

If the existing Marble Finish is structurally sound but has surface imperfections, dull patches, or minor inconsistencies, it may be possible to apply additional Marble Finish coats over the existing surface without full removal.

Conditions for light refinishing:

  • The existing finish is well-bonded with no delamination or hollow spots.

  • The surface is clean, free of wax, oils, or sealers.

  • The color is being changed or the surface is being refreshed with the same or new pigment.

Steps for light refinishing:

  1. Lightly sand the existing surface with 120–180 grit sandpaper to create mechanical adhesion.

  2. Clean thoroughly and remove all dust.

  3. Apply 1–2 new coats of Marble Plaster following the standard application sequence.

  4. Burnish and seal as normal.

Full Reapplication — Complete Removal and Restart

If the existing finish has significant defects, delamination, or structural concerns, full removal and reapplication is required.

Steps for full reapplication:

  1. Remove the existing Marble Finish by sanding back to the Stone Plaster base.

  2. Assess the Stone Plaster layer — if damaged, repair or reapply as needed.

  3. Apply a fresh set of Marble Plaster coats per the standard installation guide.

  4. Burnish and seal per normal procedure.

Why it matters: A complete reapplication ensures the new finish bonds correctly and achieves a consistent, high-quality result throughout.
