Damping the substrate helps control absorption, ensuring the Limewash bonds properly and dries evenly without dusting or premature surface drying.
When Damping Is Needed
Porous substrates like plaster, brick, adobe, or stucco can absorb water very quickly. If applied to a completely dry surface, Limewash may "flash dry" — setting before it can properly carbonate and adhere.
Best practice:
Lightly mist the surface with clean water until it appears slightly darkened but not shiny or saturated.
The wall should feel cool and damp to the touch, not wet or dripping.

When Damping Is Not Needed
