If your mixed plaster is too runny to apply, do not apply it as-is. An overwatered mix dries weak, dusty, and crack-prone. Here is what to do instead.
PHL Binder (scratch or brown coat)
Rebalance the batch by adding more dry material at the correct ratio — scratch coat 1 part binder : 1.5 parts sand, brown coat 1 part binder : 2.5 parts sand.
Add binder and sand together, remix thoroughly, and check consistency.
Bagged plasters (Base, Tadelakt, Sand, Stone, etc.)
If you have more of the same dry product, add it gradually and remix until the consistency recovers.
If you don't have more dry product and the mix stays soupy, discard the batch and mix a new one with the correct starting water.
Never do this
Never add sand, cement, joint compound, or any hardware-store product to thicken an Earthaus bagged plaster — it changes the formulation and can cause bonding and finish failures.
Never substitute a different Earthaus product (for example, Tadelakt plaster to thicken Base Plaster).
Never apply a soupy mix "thin" hoping it will work — it will not cure to full strength.
The target consistency
Properly mixed plaster holds in a soft pile like soft-serve ice cream — it stays on a hawk without sliding off. Too wet is runny like a milkshake. Water amounts in the guides are starting points; add the last of the water gradually.
