Tadelakt Showers: Corners, Edges & Reinforcing Mesh

How to handle outside corners and where to embed reinforcing fiberglass mesh in a Tadelakt shower installation.

Outside corners and edges

  • Do not use plastic or metal corner bead in the Tadelakt system.

  • Outside corners are formed by hand using alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh tape embedded in thinset, then shaped during plastering.

  • All board joints must also be taped with fiberglass mesh tape as part of substrate preparation.

Reinforcing mesh (fixtures and high-stress areas)

  • If you want extra crack protection around fixtures, valves, or other high-stress penetrations, embed fiberglass reinforcing mesh in the second base coat.

  • Apply part of the second base coat, press the mesh in flat, and cover it fully so it is buried within that coat.
