Carnet under Professional Equipment will be restricted to two months. Extension for additional two months is possible.

The scope of application has been extended to cover meetings, conferences or congresses organized by any company or organization.

Carnet under Exhibitions and Fairs is typically limited to 6 months, may be extended until the Carnet expiry.

Goods must be re-exported within six months from the date of importation. If a longer period of time is required, and to avoid severe penalties plus payment of applicable duties and taxes, it is strongly advisable to obtain approval from the Customs office of import prior to the expiry of the six -month period. Extensions beyond one year are not allowed.

It is advisable for ATA Carnet holders taking part in private events to present the Indian company’s invitation to the Customs office at the time of presenting the ATA Carnet and the goods for customs clearance purposes.

Commercial Samples are not allowed on an ATA Carnet in India.

Name of Authorized Rep must be listed in Box B of the Carnet. A letter or POA from the Holder Company may also be required.

India Ports that accept the ATA Carnet: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Cochin, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad ICD, Dadri, Goa Airport/ICD and Jaipur.

If any shipment is cause for concern, Indian Customs will request a letter of guarantee from FICCI. This will result in an administrative fee of 1200 Rs (Feb. ‘14).

India also requires a 55% bond instead of the typical 40%.

The current list of Indian Customs offices authorized to handle ATA Carnets (Monday to Friday from 10:00 am – 5 pm) are:
• New Delhi (National Capital Territory of Delhi – North India)
• Mumbai (Maharashtra – West India)
• Chennai (Tamil Nadu – South India)
• Kolkata (West Bengal – East India)
• Cochin (Kerala – South India)
• Bangalore (Karnataka – South India)
• Ahmedabad (Gujarat – West India)
• Hyderabad – ICD (Andhra Pradesh – South India)
• Dadri -Noida – ICD (Uttar Pradesh – North India)
• Goa Airport – ICD (South India)
• Jaipur (Rajasthan – Northern India)
