ATA Carnets are not accepted for unaccompanied goods.

For PE goods, annex B2 of Istanbul Convention, if technician is not present at the time of entry, the owner or the authorized representative of the company requires to provide to customs a mandate (equivalent to a POA) with details of:

  • the full company name and passport of the owner (for both the Holder and the agent in Chile)

  • name of the customs agent, freight forwarders, logistics company, company RUT, address, name and identity card of the company employee-in-charge

  • indicate that the Carnet goods will not be loaned, rented or used by third party who receives compensations

  • the tentative date of arrival

It is important to investigate directly with Chilean authorities if an ATA carnet is an acceptable mode of importation as there are restrictions, particularly if such goods will generate revenue while in Chile. This may also apply to ‘testing’ equipment .

All Chilean Customs offices are entitled to handle ATA carnets during opening hours.
