2 options:

Option A) Use Fedex, DHL or UPS

If you use FedEx, DHL or UPS, you'll need to follow a very specific process. A Carnet needs to be stamped 4 times for 1 round trip (leaving USA → entering foreign country → leaving foreign country → entering USA).

EXAMPLE:

In this example, you are "Adam in United States" shipping "Gear X" to "France". You have a person "Steve in France" who will help get the Carnet signed/stamped properly in France.

Step 1) You "Adam in United States" let us know the full name of "Steve in France" who will help with receiving. Simply add Steve's full name (or business) as Authorized Representatives in your Carnet.

Step 2) We process your Carnet and it arrives at the company or home address of "Adam in United States".

Step 3) You "Adam in United States" go to your local customs office (find here) with your gear and have the Carnet signed/stamped.

Step 4) Before shipping anything — make a photocopy of the entire Carnet. If the Carnet is ever lost in transit, you'll know exactly which counterfoils had already been used, making it much easier to get a duplicate issued and pick up where you left off.

Step 5) You ship the Carnet ahead to "Steve in France", AND ship "Gear X" via FedEx, DHL, UPS, etc. to "Steve in France".

Step 6) "Steve in France" receives the Carnet AND "Gear X" in France. He takes BOTH to the local customs office in France to get them signed/stamped upon arrival.

⚠️ Important: When the Carnet is stamped at French customs, check the Final Date of Re-exportation on the Importation counterfoil (field 2). This is the deadline by which "Gear X" must leave France. Missing this date can trigger a customs claim and potential fines. View counterfoil example

Step 7) "Steve in France" takes the Carnet AND "Gear X" to the local customs office in France to get them signed/stamped before departure.

Step 8) "Steve in France" ships the Carnet AND "Gear X" back to the United States.

Step 9) You "Adam in United States" receive the Carnet AND "Gear X", then take BOTH to your local US customs office (find here) to get them signed/stamped as arrived.

Step 10) If you're done using your Carnet (i.e. no more trips while your Carnet is valid), ship the final Carnet (with all stamps/signatures) to the address on the back of the Carnet.

Option B) Find a freight forwarder or shipper

Find a freight forwarder or shipper who has experience with Carnets. Once you get your Carnet processed with us, simply contact them for shipping logistics.
