Introduction

The Auto Cancel Feature allows merchants to configure subscriptions to end automatically after a defined number of completed orders. This feature supports controlled subscription lifecycles and reduces the need for manual cancellation.

Auto cancellation is configured at the subscription plan level and applies to all customers enrolled in that plan.

Why It Matters

Automatic cancellation supports predictable subscription management and reduces operational overhead.

Key operational benefits include:

  • Preventing subscriptions from continuing beyond the intended duration

  • Supporting limited-term or trial-based subscription models

  • Reducing manual intervention for subscription cancellations

How to Use the Auto Cancel Feature

Step 1: Access the Easy Subscription App

  • Open the Easy Subscription app from the Shopify admin dashboard.

  • Navigate to Subscription Plans.

Step 2: Create or Edit a Subscription Plan

  • Click Create Subscription Plan or open an existing plan.

  • Complete the required plan details, including pricing and subscription frequency.

Step 3: Enable Auto Cancel Subscription

  • After setting the subscription frequency, locate the Auto Cancel Subscription option.

  • Select Cancel subscription automatically after.

Step 4: Define the Order Count

  • Enter the number of completed subscription orders after which the subscription should be canceled.

  • Ensure the order count reflects the intended subscription duration.

Step 5: Save the Subscription Plan

  • Review the plan configuration.

  • Click Save to apply the auto cancel settings.

Best Practice

  • Always enter an accurate order count to avoid unintended early or delayed cancellations.

  • Use auto cancellation for fixed-duration subscriptions, prepaid programs, or promotional offers.

  • Review subscription plans periodically to ensure settings remain aligned with business requirements.
