Enabling Customers to Pause or Resume Their Subscriptions

Introduction

The Pause / Resume permission allows merchants to control whether customers can temporarily stop and restart active subscriptions from the Customer Portal.

This feature supports flexible subscription management by enabling customers to adjust delivery schedules based on their needs.

Why It Matters

Providing Pause / Resume access reduces manual support requests related to temporary order holds.

It also improves subscription continuity by allowing customers to resume service without canceling their subscription.

How to Manage Pause / Resume Permissions

Step 1: Access the Easy Subscription App

  • Log in to the Shopify Admin.

  • Open Easy Subscription from the Apps section.

Step 2: Open Feature Settings

  • In the Easy Subscription menu, select Features.

  • The Features page will open.

Step 3: Enable Customer Portal Permissions

  • Click Customer Portal within the Features section.

  • Locate the Pause / Resume option.

  • Enable the toggle to activate this permission.

Step 4: Save Changes

  • Ensure the setting is enabled.

  • Changes apply immediately to the Customer Portal.

Customer Experience

Once enabled:

  • Customers can pause an active subscription from the Customer Portal.

  • Customers can resume the subscription at any time without merchant intervention.

Best Practice

  • Enable Pause / Resume for subscription products with flexible delivery expectations.

  • Review Customer Portal permissions regularly to ensure alignment with subscription policies.
