How do I create printing rules for printers? [Ebriza POS NEXT]

Written by Naomi

Now you can choose what types of receipts you want each non-fiscal printer to print, as well as for which rooms and tags they should be printed.

To set the printing rules for printers, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Devices section

2. From the list, click on the non-fiscal printer you want

3. Go to the Print Rules section - Configure print rules

4. Select the types of receipts you want the printer to issue by checking the options on the page— print bill, preparation order, delivery bill, order cancellation bill

NEW: For the preparation order, you can choose which rooms to print on and which product tags to include.

IMPORTANT: Product tags can ONLY be set for the order receipt, order cancellation receipt, product label, and KDS ticket. Rooms, on the other hand, can be set for almost all receipt types — including Print payment receipt and Print delivery receipt. The only rule without rooms is Print KDS ticket, which is routed only by tags.

In other words: if a delivery receipt or payment receipt is no longer printing, check the rooms selected on that printer's rule — not just the tags.

Now that you've selected the options you want, all you have to do is click the Save button at the bottom.

To change the font on your receipts, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Others section.

  2. Open Settings → Receipt templates.

  3. In the window that opens, select the receipt you want to change the font for:

    • Bill

    • Delivery

    • Preparation

    • Preparation cancellation

4. Adjust the font, then tap Save.

The invoice and the sales report (from the Sales section, Print button) do not appear in this list and cannot be configured from here: they are printed directly from the POS, on the non-fiscal printer set as the Default printer for the location, and they are not routed based on either tags or rooms. The default printer cannot be changed from the printer screen in the app; if you want the invoice to come out on a different printer, message us on chat and a colleague from the support team will set it. The day closing (the Z report) does not come out on any non-fiscal printer: it prints on the cash register, from Devices, the three dots on the right of the cash register, Z Report.

If your question is how to print invoices, please refer to the article “How to issue an invoice to a customer in POS? [Ebriza POS NEXT]”.

Edge Cases:

Troubleshooting: order receipt doesn't print

If the printer appears connected (green), the app can see it or it can print a test print, but no order receipt comes out, this is not a network issue: the printer can be reached, but nothing is being sent to it. Check the routing configuration first, in this order: the rooms selected on the rules first, then the tags. Network troubleshooting steps (IP addresses, cable, paper roll, deleting and re-adding the printer) come last, only after both the rooms and the tags match.

Issues usually come from incorrectly configured tags or improper printer configuration. Follow the steps below:

1. Check the rooms selected in the printing rule

  • A rule with selected rooms prints ONLY for orders opened on a table in one of the selected rooms. If you created a new room or moved tables, make sure to select it as well.

  • Delivery also appears in the list of rooms if you have a delivery room configured. If you select rooms but do not select Delivery, order tickets for deliveries will no longer print on that printer.

  • An order that is not linked to any table in a room is picked up only by a rule that has no room selected.

  • A rule with no rooms selected prints for all rooms, EXCEPT rooms explicitly selected in another printer's rule for the same ticket type. In other words, once a room is selected for another printer, the "universal" printer no longer receives orders from that room.

This is the most common cause when tickets have stopped printing only for some orders — one specific room, deliveries only, or just one shift — while they continue to print for the rest.

Do this check on ALL the printers at the location, not only on the one being reported. Open each printer in turn, note which rooms are selected on its "Print order receipt" rule, and compare that against the full list of rooms at the location. The signal is not visible on a single printer: it comes from the difference between them. Any room that is not selected on any rule and is not covered by a rule with no rooms gets no order ticket at all — with the printer perfectly connected and the tags correct. A newly created room falls into exactly this situation.

2. Check the printer's printing rule

Go to Devices and select the relevant printer. Under Configure printing rules, first check that the "Print order receipt" rule is enabled and that a tag is selected. If no tag is selected on the rule, no product that has a tag will be sent to the printer — the rule only picks up products without a tag. A rule without a tag does NOT mean "all products". Then check that the tag selected on the rule is the one actually carried by the products that should print here. On POS NEXT the tag is not typed: you tick it from a list built out of the tags that already exist on your products, so it cannot be spelled wrongly and there is no point looking for differences in spelling, diacritics or spaces. If something does not match, it is a wrong or missing selection, not a typing mistake.

3. Check the product tags

Tags are added from the Product Catalog: click the three dots on the right of the product, select Edit, and fill in the Tag field. In POS NEXT, there are only three actual product-related issues:

  • the product has no tag – in this case, it will only be sent to printers whose rule has "no tag" selected;

  • the product has a different tag from the one selected in the rule, for example, "Kitchen Delivery" instead of "Kitchen". This is an incorrect selection from the list, not a spelling mistake;

  • the tag selected in the rule no longer exists on any product – it was selected when a product had that tag, but it was later removed from the products, so the rule no longer selects anything. If the tag you need does not appear in the printer's list, it means that no product has it yet: add it to the products first, then select it in the rule.

4. Button with mixed products (food + drinks)

When a product has the kitchen tag, it will automatically be printed on the configured non-fiscal printer with the same tag, even if it was added from a button that also contains drink products. Just check that the tags are consistent.

The order receipt prints sometimes and sometimes doesn't

Printing rules give the same result every time: an order from the same room, with products that have the same tags, always reaches the same printer. An unticked room means that room never gets an order receipt, not that it only gets one some of the time. So if the receipt is missing only now and then, for tables and products that usually print, the rules are not the cause.

Before you tick a new room on a rule, check that you actually sell in that room. A room where no orders are ever opened cannot be the cause of missing receipts. If the rule covers every room you sell in and every product tag (including "no tag", if you have products without a tag), the configuration is correct and doesn't need changing.

A note on the counter (Tejghea) room: it only matters for orders entered at the counter. Don't turn on counter mode just so you can tick the counter room if you don't sell at the counter.

What to do instead:

  • Write down one concrete receipt that didn't print: the table (or the delivery), the approximate time and the products. With that, the support team can check exactly what happened to that order.

  • Check the tablet's network. A receipt that goes missing only sometimes usually happens when the tablet switches from one Wi-Fi network to another (a guest network, a second router, the "-5G" network). The steps are in the article How can I check that the printer and the tablet are on the same network?, including what the "The tablet is on another Wi-Fi network" message means.

  • If the printer got a different IP address, see the article Changing the printer's IP address.

5. If there was a recent power outage

Printers may change their IP address after a power outage. Go to Devices, delete the existing printers (press and hold each one), then add them again using Add Device, selecting the correct model.

A product added as a modifier option, or received as an attribute of an order coming from the delivery apps (Wolt, Bolt, Glovo and so on), is routed by its own tags, not by the tags of the main product on that line. If that product has its own tag (for example bar), it prints on the printer configured with that tag, even when the main product has a different tag (for example kitchen). If its tag is set on several printers, the product appears on each of them.

If that product has no tag at all, it no longer rides on the main product's ticket: being a line of its own, it only reaches a printer whose rule also has the "no tag" option ticked. If no enabled rule asks for it — neither by tag nor by "no tag" — the line is not printed anywhere. This changed on 6 August 2026; before that date such a line was printed on the main product's ticket. If you want the option to come out together with the main product, either give it the same tag as the main product or tick "no tag" on that printer's rule (careful: "no tag" sends every untagged product to that printer).

Important: if you put a tag on a product you use as a modifier option, make sure you also have a printer (or a KDS rule) configured with that tag. Otherwise the product no longer appears on the main product's receipt and is not printed anywhere. If you want the option to print together with the main product, either leave it without a tag, or add its tag to the main product's printer as well.

The same routing rule also applies to order cancellation receipts, orders sent to the Kitchen Display Screen, and product labels.

For product labels there are two extra things to know. First: discount and promotion lines do not produce a label — they only adjust the price and are not something you pack. A bonus product, given for free, is the exception and does get a label, because it is a real product.

Second: if the labels did not come out, you can print them again for a receipt that is already closed, from the Receipts menu, by selecting the receipt and tapping Print labels. The button only appears if a label printer has been added on that tablet, and the reprint follows exactly the same tag and room rules as the original print. The details are in the article "How do I install the Zebra label printer? [Ebriza POS NEXT]".

After you have re-added the printer, go back into Configure printing rules and check the "Print order receipt" rule: tick the tag and the rooms it needs again. The tag is ticked from the list, it is not typed.

The note left by the customer does not appear on the order ticket (delivery orders with menus)

The note IS printed on the order ticket. There are, however, two different notes and they behave differently:

  • the order note (the note on the bill) is always printed, at the top of the ticket, before the products, and does not depend on tags;

  • the PRODUCT note is printed on a separate line, right under its own product line — so only if that line reaches that printer.

In other words, the note is not lost: the line it sits on is. When a product note is missing, the right question is why that line no longer reaches the kitchen.

Why this shows up mainly on delivery menus: the delivery apps send the components of a menu as separate, standalone lines. Each component goes to the printer of its own tag, while the menu line — the one carrying the customer's note — is routed separately, on its own tag. If that tag is not ticked on any enabled "Print order receipt" rule, or if the menu product has no tag and the rule does not have "no tag" ticked, the line never reaches the kitchen and the note goes with it. The components keep printing, which is why it looks like "only part of the order comes out".

What to do, in this order:

  1. Devices, then the kitchen printer, then Printing rules - Configure printing rules: check which tags are ticked on the "Print order receipt" rule.

  2. Product Catalog, the 3 dots next to the menu product, Edit, the Tag field: type exactly the tag the rule asks for and press Enter (until it is framed in a blue border), then Save.

  3. Alternatively, if the menu has to stay untagged, also tick "no tag" on the printer's rule and save. Careful: this sends every untagged product to that printer.

  4. Test by sending a delivery order to preparation and checking the ticket.

If no order ticket comes out at all, or the components are missing too, this is not your case: go to the sections about rooms and about delivery receipts.

Note: until 6 August 2026, a line that matched no rule was printed on the main product's ticket. Since then every line is routed on its own tags, so a customer saying "it printed before the update" is right — the repair is ticking the tag, as described above.

When the order ticket actually goes to the printer

The printing rules decide where the order ticket ends up. When it goes out depends on the type of order, and there are three different situations. First work out which one you are in, because the steps for one do not exist in the others.

- Table order: the ticket goes out automatically the moment the session closes, that is, when you leave the table or issue the fiscal receipt. There is no separate button to send to the kitchen. Only the products added in the current session are printed, which is why leaving the same table a second time does not re-print what has already been sent.

- Counter order: the ticket goes out a single time, when the bill is finalised. There is no step between adding the product and taking payment, and exiting the bill sends nothing to the printer.

- Delivery order: the ticket goes out only when someone explicitly sends it to preparation, with the dedicated button. Nothing happens automatically on save.

When you test a printer, use the action that triggers the send for your case: at a table, add the product and leave the table; at the counter, add the product and finalise the bill; for delivery, send the order to preparation. A test without the step that triggers the send proves nothing.

How do I test the order-ticket printer without issuing a fiscal receipt (the Z is already closed)

Use Move consumption to protocol. The order ticket is printed, but no fiscal receipt is issued. The steps, on a counter bill or at a table:

1. Add a product that carries exactly the tag of the printer you want to test — otherwise the ticket has nowhere to go (see the sections on tags below).

2. Open the three-dot menu on the bill.

3. Choose Move consumption to protocol.

4. Choose the user the consumption is put on and confirm. If it is not the logged-in user, that person enters their own PIN.

You need a user with protocol available. The list only shows users with the right to work in the POS, with a PIN set and with protocol allowance left. If the bill total exceeds the remaining allowance, the app refuses the operation entirely ("You do not have enough protocol!"), which is why the test is done on a cheap product. Protocol also cannot be applied to a bill that has a tip or a quick discount.

Careful: Protocol is not the same thing as Fiscal protocol. Move consumption to protocol does NOT issue a fiscal receipt. The "Fiscal protocol" payment method, under Payment by other methods, DOES issue a fiscal receipt — do not use it for this test.

Troubleshooting: delivery receipts are not printing

If you have orders coming in from Wolt, Bolt, Glovo, or another partner, but the receipts are no longer printing, the problem is almost always routing-related, not network-related. The order has already reached the POS — otherwise you would not see it in the Deliveries list — so do not start with the Wi-Fi or restarting the tablet. Check the following, in this order:

  • Determine which receipt you are referring to. The delivery receipt and the payment receipt are routed only by rooms. The order receipt (the one for the kitchen or bar) is routed by both rooms and product tags. If the kitchen receipt is not printing for delivery orders, also go through the section above about the order receipt.

  • Check whether the rule is enabled on any printer. Go to Devices, select the printer, then Printing rules - Configure printing rules, and make sure the missing receipt type is checked (for example, Print delivery receipt). A printer with no rules configured will only print the fiscal receipt.

  • Check the rooms selected on that rule. This is where the most common cause is found, and it is also why it may seem that “it works for tables, but not for deliveries”: if rooms have been selected on that rule, the rule only applies to orders from those rooms.

    • If you have a delivery room configured, it will appear in the list of rooms (under the name you gave it or as “Deliveries”). When you select rooms on a rule, you must select this room as well; otherwise, delivery orders will no longer be picked up by that printer.

    • If you DO NOT have a delivery room configured, the delivery order does not belong to any room and is picked up only by a rule where no room is selected. In this case, the solution is to clear the room list from the rule, not to add a room.

    • Also keep the exclusion rule in mind: a room selected on ANOTHER printer's rule, for the same receipt type, is automatically excluded from the “universal” printer (the one with no rooms selected).

    • If automatic acceptance is turned on and the order receipt prints only for some orders, check which devices are logged in at the location. For an automatically accepted order, the platform picks ONE device of the location to receive the order and send the order receipt to the printer. If the location has both a device on Ebriza POS NEXT (for example a phone) and a tablet on the old app, the POS NEXT device is chosen first whenever it is online. This holds even if your staff work on the tablet and close the order there. If that device is not on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer (it is on mobile data, on another network or at home), it cannot connect to the printer and the receipt does not print. When the device is not online, the order goes to the tablet and the receipt prints. That is why it looks like "it prints for some orders and not for others".

What to do: if the POS NEXT device is not used for selling, log it out of the app. If you do use it, keep it permanently on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer, with the app open (see the article "How can I check that the printer and the tablet are on the same network?").

  • Only now check the physical printer — offline, different network, out of paper, IP address changed after a power outage (see point 5 in the section above).

Important: If you add a tag to a product that you use as a modifier option, make sure you also have a printer (or KDS rule) configured with that tag. Otherwise, the product will no longer appear on the main product's receipt and will not be printed anywhere.

If you want the option to print together with the main product, either leave it without a tag or add its tag to the main product's printer as well.

The same routing rule also applies to order cancellation receipts, orders sent to the Kitchen Display Screen, and product labels.

If the tablet also no longer makes a sound for new orders, that is a completely separate issue and cannot be resolved here — see the article “How do I enable sound notifications for delivery orders?”.

How many order tickets are printed? (I want two tickets — one for the kitchen, one for the waiter)

First work out who the second copy is for. If you want one copy to stay in the kitchen and one to hand to the customer (so you know whose order it is when it is ready, for example at pickup), you can do that with a single printer: turn on the Print client receipt copy setting — see "A copy for the customer" below. The rest of this section covers the case where you want two tickets for your staff (for example the cook and the waiter).

A copy for the customer (one for the kitchen, one for the customer)

If the second copy is for the customer, you do not need a second printer. Turn on the Print client receipt copy setting: in the POS, on every tablet that sends orders, go to Others → Settings → the Delivery service group and turn on the Print client receipt copy switch. Although it sits in the Delivery service group, the setting applies to every order sent from that tablet, not only to deliveries. In the old Ebriza POS app the same setting was called Print order copy for client.

Right after the order ticket, the POS prints a copy for the customer with the order number in large type and the customer identifier (if you use one — see the article "How do I add a customer identifier on the order receipt?"), so you can match the order to the customer when it is ready.

The customer copy prints on the printer that has the Print bill (payment note) rule ticked for that room (Devices → the printer → Printing rules → Configure printing rules). If no printer has that rule for the room you work in, tick it on the printer where you want the copy to come out.

Note: this setting does not duplicate the kitchen ticket. If you want two order tickets for your staff, the only option is still a second printer, as described above.

In Ebriza, there is no “copy” or “number of copies” setting for an order ticket printed on a thermal printer. The ticket is sent only once to each printer whose Print Order Ticket rule has a tag in common with the products. In other words, the number of tickets printed is equal to the number of matching printers — there is no setting, either in the POS or in Administration, that can change this number.

The only way to print two order tickets is to have two separate physical printers. The same printer cannot print two tickets for the same order.

  1. Connect the second printer to the network separately, with its own IP address.

  2. Add it to the application as a separate device: Devices → Add Device → select the printer model. (In the old application: POS menu → Printers and Peripherals.)

  3. On the second printer, go to Printing Rules → Configure Printing Rules, check Print Order Ticket, and select exactly the same tag as on the first printer (identical to the tag assigned to the products), then click Save. From now on, the order ticket will be printed on both printers.

Attention: The rooms must be configured the same way in both rules: either you do not select any room in either rule, or you select the same rooms in both. A rule with no room selected does not pick up orders from a room explicitly selected in another printer’s rule for the same type of ticket — otherwise, the second printer would have no tickets exactly in the rooms where you expect them.

The Print Customer Receipt Copy setting in POS Settings does not apply to the order ticket: it prints an additional copy of the customer receipt, which is a different document.

Troubleshooting: the fiscal receipt does not print only at the counter (or only in one room) and no error appears

The cash register also has print rules. The cash register's "Print fiscal receipt" rule is routed by room, just like the receipts on non-fiscal printers. If rooms are ticked on it, the cash register prints the fiscal receipt ONLY for sales in those rooms.

Counter is also a room in the list of covered rooms. If the cash register's fiscal receipt rule has other rooms ticked, but not Counter, the sales paid at the counter do not reach the cash register: no receipt prints, no error appears, and receipts at the tables print normally.

How to recognise this situation: the fiscal receipt does not print only in one mode (usually Counter) or only in one room, while otherwise the cash register prints normally and no error message appears. A cash register with a physical problem shows an error and stops for all receipts, not just for one room. That is why you should NOT start here with the cable, the IP address, the PC connection, the paper or the cover. The fact that other receipts on the same day printed successfully proves nothing: they were paid in other rooms.

What to do?:

1. Go to Devices.

2. Tap the cash register that should print the receipt.

3. Go to Print rules configuration.

4. On the Print fiscal receipt rule, look at Covered rooms.

5. Tick Counter (or the room that does not print).

6. Tap Save.

From now on, receipts paid at the counter print on the cash register. If you have several cash registers, every room (including Counter) must be ticked on the fiscal receipt rule of at least one of them.

Note: the Counter room appears in the list only on a tablet that has counter mode turned on. Make the change from such a tablet.

Only if the room is ticked and the receipt still does not print, or if an error message appears, move on to the cash register checks (connection, paper, receipt left open).

One cash register no longer works (fiscal memory full, broken, at service) and you want the fiscal receipts to print on the other cash register

If your location has two (or more) cash registers and one of them can no longer issue receipts – for example it shows the fiscal memory full error (-100114), it is broken, or it has gone to service – you do NOT need to delete it and add another one. The app chooses the cash register by the room in which the order was paid, using each cash register's "Print fiscal receipt" rule. To have receipts print on the working cash register, move the rooms to it.

What to do:

  1. Go to Devices and tap the cash register that no longer works. Open Configure printing rules and note the rooms ticked on the Print fiscal receipt rule (Covered rooms).

  2. Back in Devices, tap the cash register that works. Open Configure printing rules.

  3. On the Print fiscal receipt rule, tick the rooms you noted in step 1 (in addition to the ones already ticked) and tap Save.

  4. On the cash register that does not work: open Configure printing rules again, untick the rooms on the Print fiscal receipt rule (or turn the rule off), then tap Save. If the same room stays ticked on both cash registers, the receipt may still be sent to the one that does not work.

If no room is ticked on the working cash register's Print fiscal receipt rule, it already picks up every room that is not ticked on another cash register. In that case step 4 is enough.

Careful: deleting the broken cash register from Devices does NOT move the receipts to the other one. If you have already deleted it and receipts are no longer fiscalised, its rooms are left uncovered. Open the remaining cash register, Configure printing rules, the Print fiscal receipt rule, tick every room you sell in (including Counter and the delivery room, if you use them), then tap Save. Do not add a new cash register and do not untick rooms on the remaining one.

Receipts that were not fiscalised in the meantime appear in red in the Receipts section. Reprint them after you have moved the rooms (see the article "The fiscal receipt did not come out, how can I reissue it?").

The broken cash register (for example with full fiscal memory) goes to an authorised service. When it comes back, reverse the steps: tick the rooms on it again and untick them on the other one.

If your location has only one cash register, there is nowhere to move the receipts. The cash register goes to service, and a new or replacement cash register is added from Devices, with Add device.

For Ebriza POS application version only:

Why don't order tickets print for tables in a newly created room?

This happens when you have room-based print rules set, and the room you want order tickets printed for is not ticked.

Do the following:

  1. Go to POS Settings → Printers and Peripherals.

  2. Select the printer.

  3. Under Print rules - printer rooms, add the room you want order tickets printed for.

  4. Save.
